Pats D still Number 2 in AFC points against

I'll eat a little crow today

I still don't think we have a good defense, but they played well when it mattered
They have played well this season. It's indisputable. Your desire to predict doom from a defense that literally had had one bad game is mystifying.

Hard to place this defense. They are ranked very high in the points allowed category but when I watch them they give up chunks of yards and are not so good at 3rd down stops.
Yet somehow they still appear around the top of the ppg stat. By design?

Not sure if it's by design but we've seen past Pats defenses give up yards but tighten up in the red zone and not give up many points, 2011 comes to mind. They were much worse than this team giving up yards and made it to the Super Bowl.

They were worse in terms of both yards and points that year.

There are many different ways to play defense and to game plan. The goals are to limit points and take the ball away. If you are doing that how you do it doesn't really matter, except to fans who just like to complain about something.

Chris Long showed up. THAT is what THIS BDB defense NEEDS in a close game. Make plays. Soreta gave up on him but he showed his savvy and grit today.

The AFC is better now than in 2011. If the defense continues to get smoked on 3rd downs they wont make it to the SB, especially facing high powered offenses like Oakland and Pittsburgh

I think their best bet at CB2 is Rowe with safety help when they're in man. Jones at nickel would be ideal once he's healthy again.

That's an unusual pet name

When you're a virgin, like yourself, everything related to sex is foreign and unusual to you.

Don't put the ****y on a pedestal, kiddo. Just go out there and smash anything. You'll never do better than a gargantuan gargoyle with cottage cheese thighs who is related by blood to you, but still. Better than nothing.

So that's a yes on the wife

This post pretty much sums up the complaints about the Pats defense. Points per game is a valuable stat, but especially for regular season performance. And the Pats offense (lack of turnovers especially on the Pats side of the field) and special teams have greatly contributed to the Pats defensive points per game stats. The Pats being number 1 in the league in terms of opponents starting field position is a significant contributing factor in terms of defensive points allowed.

Yes, we're all spoiled, but the issue most have about this defense is not whether it is good enough to hold off the Jets or 49ers or Browns or Steelers without Ben, but whether it is good enough to win in the playoffs against a team with a good enough defense to slow down our offense. That's why defensive efficiency stats, especially defensive passing efficiency stats are as or more important to playoff success than points per game stats.
The Patriot offense is #5 in terms of starting position, does the defense get credit for that?

I can explain why it seems that way. A bend don't break defense does give you the lingering impression that it is getting beat, when it is actually doing what it is designed to do, stopping most if not all big plays. If the Pats blitzed all the time, and got more pressures, and sacks, but for some reason gave up even ONE more big play a game... You could be at 24 points per game and nearer the bottom, and lose more, YET still give the viewer (non-coach, unskilled "eyeball test") the impression that they just "seem" better for some reason. Your post itself kind of states this. Belichick is usually called one of the greatest if not the greatest coach of all time. He says the only D stat that matters is points scored. "Stats are for losers" he says.

EDIT: I also read today that the Pats are better on 3rd down D than Seattle this year.. I admit I read it on here somewhere LOL

and should have won it too. The D was not terrible on that game, and they had to let them get the TD at the end. 19 total points, and you can consider it 12 or 15 when you consider they gave in for the TD. (They had stopped them for three points on a couple drives in the second half already. D was solid in SB 46
