Shea McClellin

Whenever i see him play i think "His signed duped BB into letting go of the young talented KGH". He is doing okay in Philly btw.
KGH has played literally one defensive snap all season, and that was week 1.

I thought he played a lot more. Maybe i am confusing him with someone else.

McClellin played 36 snaps - three times more than Roberts and second only to Hightower. This was his first off-the-line action. Could be Belichick is just experimenting here to see what sticks in replacing Collins.

Right now there aren't too many options given they can't clone Hightower. Roberts at this point is not a three-down player. Could they move Nink off-the-line? But maybe he's also too slow to cover those wheel routes and crossing patterns. Maybe have to re-jigger the scheme to use a safety like Chung?

THIS
This was the perfect opponent to try the experiment under live fire. 4 tackles is not MIA. I'd like to see if film review and coaching results in improvement.
Remember Bruschi? It took, what 2+ seasons to shift him from a hands on the ground guy to a LB. The 1st 2 years Bru was not a lock. This is simply an example not that I think McC has any shot at being anywhere that good; just that he may hopefully prove adequate though over paid.

This thread certainly brings up memories of Cannon's, White's, Blount's, Bolden's .. well basically all the JAG's threads ..

He's been a big disappointment so far, can't cover, has a hard time finishing plays, really surprised that Mingo hasn't passed him on the depth chart yet. Can he be even worse?
Fact that Mingo is only playing special teams tells us what Belichick thinks of him.

McClellin was given a huge opportunity to show his skill set. Belichick might just be toying with his personal to find the best replacement combinations for Collins, but will be interesting to see what happens in the coming weeks.

And pretty much came up empty as far as we can tell. Didn't have any notable impact plays and missed a tackle. But that was in the context of a LB group in flux and his first time playing off-the-line with the Patriots. So likely too early to be writing his obituary here.

Right now I see McClellin and Sheard both as possible spring cleaning options in 2017. Sheard has a chance to win me back but the ship sailed on McClellin. He was worth a shot but doesn't have it.
please dont mention KGH anymore. Still dont know why Freeney got extension and KGH released.
But with that Freeney extension maybe BB planned not to resign Collins in preseason.

McClellin set the edge hard early on in the game. Just about tackled the RB with the tight end (or tackle, I forget) that was blocking him. I was surprised to see his number.

BB thinks of Mingo like he thinks of Ebner, King, and Captain Slater?
Yes, but come to think of it, King and Mingo are sort of similar in terms of size and position, (somewhere in between safety and linebacker). It would be great if Mingo could get some snaps on D but I wonder if the verdict is that he's not stout enough to play NFL linebacker.

I thought this article from the spring was interesting. Perhaps you are right, but I think he's just basically a bust as an NFL player.

Cleveland Browns' beefed-up Barkevious Mingo is hungry for success, about 6,000-calories-a-day hungry

He has more tackles than Slater and King combined, so I assume by "NFL player" you mean "DE/LB." Viewed through the expectations of his draft selection, he is certainly a bust, but he may be filling the exact need BB had in mind for him.

For only the money with which he extended Jonny Freeny - never mind the almost 3 times that amount
which he literally flushed down the toilet to sign McClellin - Bill could've signed Zach Brown.

How THE FECK can someone like Bill, with all of the resources readily available to him, FECK UP this
badly on a free-agent signing? How?!? In-FECKIN-excusable.

It's not like he had to out-bid other teams for this useless turd's services either.

So not only did Bill waste time, energy and a roster spot on the bum, but he also wasted precious salary
cap space on him too.

And those of us who knew that this was a horrible, horrible signing were once again proven correct, and
Bill was, once again, proven wrong. You're welcome.
