Alex Smith has a rifle of an arm. One pass he completed last night over the middle downfield was pretty amazing.

the one where Champ Bailey was covering. Even Bailey applauded the throw.

It was a nice throw but he doesn't have a BIG arm. Never has, never will.

Someone explain to me what Tony Cornhole brings to a NFL football telecast.
The Niners are well coached. Nolan knows what he's doing.

I think you will find Kornheiser more palatable if you think of him as a fan in the booth. That's the concept. What would the average fan sound like if he were in the booth. He's not there to offer insightful insight or technical jargon. He there to represent the observations that the average fan would make if he were in the position to be in the booth. Its supposed to be light, sometimes amusing, and offer a counterpoint to the playbyplay and technical aspects being offered by the other 2 guys in the booth.

I think complaints about Tony occur because of a greater expectation of what he's supposed to be offering than what his actual job is. ...and yes Jaws is an improvement over Theisman.

Is TBC in their starting line up on defense?

They signed him to a pretty sizable contract. I would be a surprise if he is *not* in the starting lineup. Frankly, if TBC is given Freeney-like freedom to rush on every down I think that he could be pretty good. It was just that NE's defense requires guys be an asset in all phases that they are in on.

Kornholio is actually a good sportswriter. He's just dorky looking and goofy sounding. I believe when Jason Alexander (George from Seinfeld) got his own show, his character was based on Kornheiser, but they had to hire Jason Alexander to play him, to make him sexier and more likeable.

Look, at least we've seen the last of the Dennis Miller Experiment, and Oprah is only scheduled to visit the set. I am sure some damn fan will be told to look under his seat to find a super bowl XLII ticket.

I can live with whoever they stick in the booth at this point. I lived through Cosell's football knowledge, annoying nasal twang, and jock hating. I lived through Joey Sunshine and Dennis the Menace. I lived through Joe Namath plucked from drunken obscurity and trying to get his Mac on with Suzy Colbert or Michelle Tafoya or somebody. I will survive Kornheiser.

I have to say that PTI is the one show I like on espn. Wilbon and him know there stuff better than most on that channel.

I think that Jaws is a huge upgrade over Joe and that he makes Tony look better. However, I still think that Kornheiser is out of his element on MNF and tends to get lost between Tirico and Jaworski. In other words, he shouldn't quit his day job on PTI. As for Michele Tafoya, whom I like, I still think that Boston's own Leslie Visser was the best and most substantive MNF sideline reporter and that the entire production went downhill when they got rid of her and the crew and entered the Dennis Miller error.

I'm not sure I want a top 5 pick with these RIDICULOUS contracts, I just want one low enough to get a certain safety from Miami

They'd trade it under almost any circumstance I could envision.

I believe that our 49ers pick has a better chance of being in the 20s than in the teens, but only slightly. My prediction is that it's a #22 pick, but I probably need to say 21 because we always get 21. I wouldn't want a top 5 either given those contracts --- really they hurt the team, keeping the bad teams bad. But not to worry, top 5 ain't happening. Neither is top 15. Maybe like a 16 or 18 if we're really lucky, but 24 is more likely than 16.

I know it's early but the Houston Texans look like a fantastically coached ballclub.

good ballclub.

Good defense, scrappy "O-line", solid fundamental blocking.

good ballclub.

Agreed - Unless something happens with injury of a lengthly time to Alex Smith,Nate Clements or Frank Gore or any of thier core players, the 49ers ARE going to win AT LEAST 9 games this year in that weak West.

Kind of tired of hearing the Rams ect are better in that division,To me the niners are as good or better

Some fans on here are dilusional and only think with 'homie heads'.

I am near 100% agreeing on a #22 pick,It sounds about right but apparently we are in the minority, like that clown who said its possible the niners go 0-16

Houston is overdue for a decent season,Unlike Carolina and Jacksonville who got out of the gate as an expansion team and was a Super Bowl contender within the first 5 years, the Texans have been slow to come around.

They ARE due, maybe a wild card this year at best.

Yep...And if the Rams were in the trade instead of the Niners you would say the Niners were a much better team and the Rams would be lucky to win 7 games .. Its how it is in homerville

No I wouldn't. I just think the Rams are better. I think their QB is better. I think their WR are better. I think their RB are the same. SF gets TE but the Rams did well getting McMichael. And I like the Rams defense better especially with how Carriker is playing. Don't make me out to be some homer, I'm not saying we're getting the #1 pick. But the best case for SF, IMO, is 9-7 with 8-8 more likely.

I think that's going to be a VERY interesting division. I agree with a lot of people on this thread - 49ers will be better than expected, give us a draft pick around the early 20's, maybe late teens, and the Rams WILL be better.

Does Michelle Tafoya look better this year or have I been drinking too much? Jaws is soooo much better than Theisman.

I love Jaws and he is much more interesting to listening to. Now if we can get rid of Kornheiser.

I love listening to Jaws break down film.

and the Rams WILL be better.
Maybe it's because I have a huge Rams fan at work but I really like them. McMichael will help them at TE, Leonard will be a rock solid guy to take the edge off Jackson getting every carry, Carriker has looked really good so far. I just like them and I would take Bulger and Holt over Smith and Jackson any day of the week.

I have one foot on the Rams bandwagon. Their team improved through FA and the Draft as much or more than San Fran. Drafting Carriker, Leonard and Wade. Signing Drew Bennet and Randy McMichael. They had a negitive run differential but won 8 games so the Rams ARE going to win AT LEAST 9 games this year in that weak West.
