It's easy, and only takes a few moments.I don't see the contract of losing their OL (Mack, maybe?) at 5/45 getting them a third round comp pick as those selections are normally given out for the biggest free agent deals/losses.
Mack making 9m dollars a year probably only nets them a 4th round comp pick for 2017--which means that we get their regular pick in the 4th in 2018.
So we going to get an early 3rd round pick then?
What happens if Collins signs with Cleveland?
wouldn't goodell get the first 4th rounder the Pats have? So, it would be their own 4th rounder, which most likely will be at the end of round 4.the pick will be 97th at the earliest and as late as whatever the first pick of the 4th round is (assuming Cleveland continues to be the worst team/record in the NFL).
Last year there were 3 3rd round compensatory picks (NE, KC, Cincy) and the 4th round started at pick 100.

right, so it's possible the Pats end up with a late 4th rounder for Collins....if clev doesn't get a 3rd round comp pick.Whatever the Pats' highest fourth round pick, the League takes away.
Yeah, if we got Cleveland's #4, that would go away and we would basically be trading for Seattle's #4 as that's the one we're currently losing.Whatever the Pats' highest fourth round pick, the League takes away.

No, it's a 2018 (most likely high) #4. Of course, that's about the same value as a late #4 but it is what it is.right, so it's possible the Pats end up with a late 4th rounder for Collins....if clev doesn't get a 3rd round comp pick.
I thought there was a lot of murkiness in those waters regarding the possibility of CLE getting a third round comp pick for Mack. I've certainly seen plenty who don't believe it will happen, although as you mentioned, I certainly wouldn't doubt the experts.Nope. If Mack plays over 80% of his snaps at Atlanta then Cleveland will get a third round compensatory. No offense, but most experts -- who have an almost 100% hit rate in the past years -- are saying the same thing about Mack.
I thought we were losing the fourth rounder in this upcoming ('17) draft. Why would we lose CLE's higher fourth round pick in 2018, which is when the compensation would occur if the Browns don't receive the extra 3rd for next spring?Yeah, if we got Cleveland's #4, that would go away and we would basically be trading for Seattle's #4 as that's the one we're currently losing.

The fact that the NFL now knows that the pick would be going to NE increases my skepticism.
