How is trading Chandler Jones for the 63rd pick in the draft and a 2.3 million dollar cap hit a good trade? THey could have kept Jones for less than 5 million more in cap space and still got a third round comp pick for him if he left in Free Agency.

Right now, his 2.3 million still counts against the Pat's cap. So basically they cut a guy and received ZERO cap relief for cutting him, which of course means the cut was performance related and not financially related.

According to Miguel his cap cost for 2016 is going to be about $2.7MM, BUT that's it. My point was there is NO dead money associated with Cooper's contract. They owe him what they owe him in 2016 and the associated cap hit, BUT, again, that's it. NO deady money.

Pats took a flier. Cap hit was important but part of deals negotiation dynamics.

You can't win if you don't buy a ticket. without high draft picks, the Pats have to gamble on upside sometimes IMO.

Ted, get a grip, people have pointed out to you in this thread on several occasions EXACTLY why this trade worked out for the Pats too. How many times does the hammer have to hit the nail on the head before you stop submitting the same post over and over again?

That's good. The Pats work every angle. I can't even imagine what the Pats would do with a non-tilted draft, but I wouldn't have it any other way [We win no matter what, so suck it Goondell].

4 years of Thuney + 4 years of Mitchell + $5 million in cap space is still > 1 year of Jones + 2018 3rd Round Comp pick.

No chance I would reverse this trade even if I had the chance.

I've said I'm happy with our pass rushers this year. Jones is great, but he had issues too. I don't really worry about deal to deal, because it's all dependent on the market and cap at the time. As long as the team improves overall and I think it has.

The Pats are best at an overall talent plans in a crazy league where your key player can go down in a second.

Sounds to me like he was moved so we can get that DT from the PS and can be resigned at any point next week again. If someone poaches him from waivers then this should reduce the liability..

Yes he does. And the Patriots can elect to bring him back if they desire to do so. If another team signs him it will reduce the amount the Patriots have tied up to him.
