Bill fire OC Greg Roman

To those who actually watched the game, I have a question:

How many times did the Bills use a moving pocket?

Not frequently, and perhaps that was a misuse of Tyrod Taylor's skillset. The Jets actually did a fairly nice job of contain, though. Taylor made some decent reads and throws, but drops and fumbles killed a few key drives. They could have taken that game with their current offense; I think it's more of an issue with personnel and execution.

I honestly dont get what your issue is Andy. While on paper they scored over 30 points they looked pathetic and inept for most of the night. I'd have more confidence in their OC if they scored only half of the points but were actually able to move the ball consistently.

There is obviously nothing wrong with points off deep balls but if more than half of your points come off low percentage plays (deep ball vs. Revis), broken plays (TD to Salas) and a returned turnover then you might have an issue if your luck in such situations reverts back to the mean and leaves you empty handed.
I find it silly to say an offense failed because it had big plays and sillier to call it luck.
If a team scores on long drives with many 3rd down conversions what halogens when their luck runs out and they return to the mean?
Look there are many way to criticize the bills and their offense and Roman but to say 31 points, 24 on offense is bad because of the way they scored them makes no sense to me.
You are not being compelled to agree with me so think what you want.

Taylor staying in the pocket and trying to make short throws over large DL is a huge advantage for defenses.

Yeah, there's a world of difference between designed plays and broken plays. That seems to be getting ignored.

I know this is the Rexy thread but I found that Jets troubles much more fascinating last night. As Joker has pointed out numerous times, "they really suck".

If the Jets didn't have such a ***** of an early schedule, they'd be favorites to make the playoffs.

I don't think that having a mobile QB and having him escape the pocket while your receivers are coached to resound by going deep constitutes a broken play. Aaron Rodgers is lauded for it.

Especially when Taylor made many such plays last year.

here's a summary of the drives:

1st Quarter
Jets - 15 plays, 8:19 FG
Bills - 3 plays, 1:25 TD
Jets - 9 plays, 5:15 FG

2nd Quarter
Bills - 4 plays, 1:38 PUNT
Jets - 6 plays, 2:15 TD
Bills - 9 plays, 3:20 PUNT
Jets - 7 plays, 3:54 TD
Bills - 13 plays, 3:45 FG
Jets - 1 play, 0:05 end of half

3rd Quarter
Bills - 3 plays, 0:51 TD
Jets - 5 plays, 2:54 fumble recovered by Bills for TD
Jets - 5 plays, 1:42 PUNT
Bills - 4 plays, 0:54 PUNT
Jets - 12 plays, 6:27 TD
Bills - 5 plays, 2:12 end of quarter

4th Quarter
Bills - 1 play, 0:08 intercepted
Jets - 8 plays, 4:12 FG
Bills - 5 plays, 3:37 turnover on downs
Jets - 5 plays, 3:01 TD
Bills - 10 plays, 2:45 TD
Jets - 4 plays, 1:07 PUNT
Bills - 1 play, 0:10 end of game

bills defense did okay in the 1st quarter, considering they played almost the entire quarter. in the 2nd quarter, the bill gave up 2 TDs, each after a short bills drive. in the 3rd quarter, the bills D stopped the jets on 2 straight drives (where they scored a defensive TD and forced a punt), and then the bills offense took less than a minute to go 3-and-out. jets then went on a long drive and scored.

the bills O definitely made things hard for the bills D.

The bills defense didn't make it easy on themselves by allowing the jets to march right down the field either.

In the first half the bills had
TD
4 and out
9 play drive
13 play drive

That is not a case of putting the d in a bad position. The d not getting off the field was the bigger problem.

Second half not as good but

TD
4 and out
6 and TO
5 and to on downs
10 play TD

Again is not awful.

I don think it's correct to say a 3 play TD drive is a disservice to your team

  • The Bills have put their foot in it this time.
  • In Buffalo, trouble is afoot.
  • Rex Ryan is dead on his feet.
  • Roman should have done a better job of toeing the line.
  • Will Rex be fired before the end of the season? I'd say he's a shoe-in.

Of course it's a broken play. That's not even debatable. You're confusing

with

"This is what you do if the play goes tits up".

This is a weird move. Roman came from SF where he MADE Kaepernick, who was a small-college QB who was running this funky new offense called the pistol. Roman brought Kaepernick and the pistol to the NFL where it thrived--for a while. When Harbaugh imploded, the Bills brought in Roman and Taylor, I assume to implement the pistol or read option.
I watched the game and saw little or no read option at all. Who made this call? The Roman/Taylor combination says read option, but they didn't run it. Are they going in a new direction? Taylor mostly looked like a standard pocket QB last night.

You would expect a team with both Rex and Rob to be Twice as good on defense. Anyway, after that profane speech somebody had to go.

They were just caught flat-footed. That's all.

Have to disagree.
