Jimmy's Value

I get it. 5-11 browns. Yeah, but they brown crew is looking like they could go 0-16.

Your argument has lots of logic, however, If and when most likely the browns have shown to be absolutely nothing (0-4), I see the rest, and the possibility of injury. The rest is just as beneficial along with the other things I've combined. Its not like I'm saying he doesnt suit up. He could always come in later in the game if Jimmy somehow **** the bed, but if they're 4-0, I doubt that will be the case with the browns.

This isn't a health issue like with Gronk, and Brady will already have had 4 weeks off. How much more rest will he need?

I mean, I get people have different opinions. And I can respect most of them. But this one is insane. I mean no offense, but I really can't just chalk this one up to we agree to disagree. You want to sit a healthy Brady. I don't understand this at all. It's like you're proposing we let BB spend the weekend on the boat in Nantucket since it's just the Browns.

As for the potential 0-16 Browns, that doesn't mean they will roll over. The 2008 Lions went 4-0 in the preseason before going 0-16 in the regular season. They lost 5 one-possession games. They lost 2 games to division winner Minnesota by a combined 6 points. They were competitive in many games even though they lost all of them.

And I know everyone is really high on Jimmy G after that Cardinals game. It was very, very impressive. But the Cards don't have a great D-line, that's why they had to go out and get Jones. The next 3 weeks, we play 3 of the best D-lines in football, which may be kryptonite to all of our O-line issues. The Dolphins, Texans, and Jets could make Jimmy G look a lot less comfortable in that pocket. Even though they're not better teams than Arizona, they match up better with our biggest weakness right now.

If Brady got his suspension reduced, I would take it in a heartbeat. Artificially extending his non-playing time makes absolutely no sense, unless you're a Jets fan.

Hell, yeah.

01 ~ The Browns are unlikely to make any such Call. They're accumulating Picks, not dispersing them.

02 ~ But what you throw out there is a Trade that reflects True Market Value, I believe.

03 ~ The Browns have a very strong Chance to net the #1 Pick in the Draft.

04 ~ And Joe Thomas could be the Difference in Winning It All.[/QUOTE]

OK Grid, your one of the better draft guys, and I'm not. Is there a generational QB prospect out there this year with an Andrew Luck/Peyton Manning can't miss tag on them. I've watched a few games and all I've seen are some physically gifted QB's who aren't playing anything close to an NFL offense.

My guess is that the QB lottery will be more of the same as last season. You have some great prospects, but it will be a coin flip if any turn out to be any good. Goff is currently #3 on a bad team with 2 QB's that aren't even considered journeymen ahead of him.

So tell me again why Cleveland wouldn't look real hard at trading a few of the 13? picks they have right now for a guy they KNOW for certain is an NFL QB, coming from best 3 year apprenticeship in decision making and quick release football in the league. The draft pick has long proven to be a VERY risky proposition, just as likely to blow up in your face as turn out to be a winner. JG, will much more likely give you good to great QB play for the next 1o year, and you don't have to wait a year or two for him to be NFL ready.

That being said, I really know nothing about the current QB crop, so if you want to fill me in, feel free. Are there any who you think would be a better QB than Jimmy in 2017? I'm always ready to learn at the feet of an expert. ;)

we shall discover
what posts in this thread look like
after three more games

Seems like every young QB is lighting it up. So I'm not sure JG's value will be quite what you all think it will be. That being said if there is a desperate team like the Vikings they can make a great deal.

I agree that it may not be what some are envisioning in terms of 1st + 4th + 2nd next year (or good player), but I do think that we should start at a first round pick for sure.

Understanding that you only used them as an example, MIN seems to have shot its wad in terms of mortgaging the future for a QB, so I'd rule them out. Also, they'll be having their franchise QB return for next season. A much better choice would be CLE or LA, at least in my opinion. Either way, your point stands that all it takes it one desperate team to pull off a nice deal.

Or keep him in case Tom regresses.

Hell yeah....that's my mentality.

If there's even the slightest chance Brady won't be able to sustain his play in 2018, you hold onto Jimmy G. and let him run out his contract with the Pats.

i just wrote a whole post where i tried to argue the value of keeping him on the bench through next year in case Brady declines but realized half way through that it makes no sense.

you get value for jimmy this year, it's a no-brainer. a mid-round 1st (what i expect the market value will be for him if he goes 3-1) could produce a player that's a huge part of the team....and i think Brady is going to want to play until he's 43. he's earned the right to retire a Patriot, and his style of play and self-care regimen makes me think he's capable of keeping up a high quality of play for at least the next two and a half seasons, more than enough time to scout and draft a few mid- (or even 2nd?) round QBs and start developing them.

i mean remember this isn't just some JAG off of waivers who played a good game. jimmy was projected as a 2nd or 3rd round pick out of college. if someone who was already assumed to be worth a relatively high pick can win 3 of 4 games in the NFL, you bet your ass someone will come off a 1st round pick for that.

also the quality that you could find somewhere between picks 8-15 is very, very high. you could be looking at a player that could push the team over the championship edge, even with a 42 year old QB. so lets hope jimmy keeps playing at a level of quality that would give the front office a shot at that kind of pick.

The main issue is that he will have run out his contract with the Pats--at the end of next season.

Keeping both would be very difficult, if not impossible, as Brady's cap hit jumps to 22m dollars. That isn't even taking into account why Garoppolo would want to take a deal that would likely pay him well below market value where he would remain a benchwarmer instead of a starter.

A couple of teams had a first round grade on him.

Jimmy isn't going anywhere. Tom is 39. Any number of things could happen.

If the Jimmy we seen in week 1 is the one we get the next 3 games, JG becomes untradable in my eyes.

You don't trade franchise QB's.

I'm as excited as anyone about Garoppolo but Cassel had a 116 QB rating in week 1 of 2008 also.

Cassel did, but I don't remember Cassel going into a possible SB contender stadium on the road, and have the type of poise JG did. There's things to work on with JG, but for his first career professional start, he was awesome.

Not to mention, the expectations for Cassel, and 7th rd guy that was a backup all throughout college was different than a guy like Jimmy.

If we do trade JG I hope he lands with the 49ers.

I mean you also don't pay 2 franchise abs at ounce as well. Take the 1sr 3rd and 4th and run. I like Jacoby anyways he wasn't picked for no reason.

You dont pay 2 franchise Qb's, but you have to take into account Brady's age. I know thats unpopular thinking in here, but its true.

We don't want to be the next Dolphins or Bills settling for crap at the most important position in sports.

This Patriot team is better than the 2008 team as well.

Correct. Cassel struggled against all the good teams in 2008.

Thats debatable RW. I think if Brady was at the helm we at least make the SB.

2008 was such a strange year. Pitt had a great D but if TB12 was in there....we own Pitt.

I don't think the 08 defense is near what this team is.

Offensively I think its obviously close but I like how more diversified the 2016 team is.

08 oline and running game blows 2016 out of the water.

I think 08 Brady was/will be better than 2016 Brady but who knows.
