Brady starting and Jimmy not expected to play vs Giants

Only challenge is this team has 2 #1 QB's, one for games 1-4, and one for beyond.

I agree. As for those arguing that if Jimmy gets injured tonight then we have to play Brissett in the 1st 4 games, well, what happens if Brissett gets injured tonight?

They trade for Matt Cassell or Brian Hoyer

I'm serious.

I get it but I don't like it. Please Jesus, protect TB against the NY Giant scrubs.

Our Starters better not go more than 3 Three series...I remember many moons ago before BB we lost three Starters on Defense in a Preseason Game 4. The Season was over before it even started.

You can look forward to seeing the starting 4 OL tonight (RG5 may still be TBD).

So ironically, the one QB we can afford an injury to, assuming it is minor, is Brady, since he can't play the first 4 weeks.

How messed up is that?!

I don't think BB would do something to placate Tom if he didn't think it was in the best interests of the team.

I bet the sports radio yahoos are screaming JIMMY NEEDS TO PLAY!!!! BRADY IS BEING SELFISH!!

Whatever. I'm trusting Bill's judgement on this one.

This is what I can never understand about people that get upset about Belichick's decisions when it comes to the team. He has stated, time and time again "it's always in the interest of the team." That's the truth, that is his MO. He doesn't care what anyone else thinks, especially media. Other than his staff, he knows the most about this football team.

Can you disagree with his moves? Of course, but to sit there and say he was manipulated into any decision regarding this team is just total fantasy. The team comes first to Bill, period.

This is the last time we'll see Brady until 37 days from now. I'm fine with it as long as the starting OL is there and he isn't out there past the 3rd quarter.

One last time....**** YOU GOODELL.

If he were REALLY smart, he'd come here for the best ideas... then we'd have all those Cowboys draft picks locked up!!!!

From a risk mitigation standpoint with the near-term in mind, its the safest move. I get it.

Jimmy G gets hurt in this game they can easily go 0-4

If Jimmy gets hurt early in the season then Brisket has a ton of reps to learn from if the bullets start flying.

In addition BB must feel that he needs to find ways for Brady to have as little rust as possible. Maybe playing tonight helps him over the next few weeks? Keep in mind BB knows Tom better than anyone. If he thinks he needs the reps, hes giving them to him.

Agreed, there's not a lot to argue about this either, it's the right call. I think this is more about preserving the O-line then QB's. We are thin at the position and you don't want a tackle or guard getting a freaking injury in week 4 of the preseason. It doesn't make sense for Jimmy G to play with 2nd stringers as well. Needs to gel with the guys they have in mind for week 1.

SO are BB exposing Brady to risk? NO. Brady knows how to play a game like this and is going down at the minimum risk. Jimmy may become anxious in showing something and take unnecessary risks.

If Jimmy or Jacoby was to get injured tonight, the best scenario would be to claim Geno Smith on waivers, have him play out of his mind for 4 games, Pats start 4-0, and then trade Geno back to the Rats for two #1 picks.

Exactly. I think at the end of the day he cares about Tom and his emotional state deeply.

When it comes what is in the best interests of the football team, what Tom wants doesn't mean **** and I think Tom understands that completely.

The other thing that I'm wondering and this might be far-fetched but Jimmy was kinda shaky vs CAR. Hes a young QB in the big chair now. If BB thought that there might be a little bit of self-doubt creeping in or if he needs practice reps to get the confidence up (throwing to Gronk and JE11 would help that), then not sure it makes sense to play him tonight. Why take the chance.

If Jimmy went 1-10, 3 sacks and a INT, there would be panic in the streets and you know damn well Jimmy would hear it and on the road vs AZ on Sunday Night makes it a little tougher.

Tommy is confident when hes getting his ass kicked. I don't think BB knows that for sure about Jimmy- yet.

Another whats the upside vs the downside scenario to chew on.
