because I was comparing them to the Jets HC, fair enough. I apologize if I cmae across as an ignorant homer.

Enough of this ****. I don't want to see a whole list of all the players Mangini inherited.

If you want to talk about the Jets, take it here.

(Or preferably here. Or here. Or here.)

sorry, apologies for my arguement getting out of hand.

Damn, you are friggin IGNORANT.

You can't compare the situations.
1) The Browns were rebuilding when Crennel got there. They had no QB. No RB. No WRs. Their defense was horrendous.
2) The Jets were an established team when Mangini took over from Herm Edwards. To claim that the team was in shambles is friggin LUDICROUS and so friggin UNTRUE its pathetic.

And, btw, Neither is the Defensive Coordinator at the two places you mentioned. They are the Head Coaches. Clearly you don't understand the difference.

Crennel - 3 rings with the Pats as the Defensive Coordinator.
Mangini - 0 rings with the Pats as the Defensive Coordinator. And, as I mentioned, Mangini actually had his responsibilities taken from him during games in the 2nd half of the 2005 season. I believe from the Miami game onwards. So, in the 1st 8 games, the Pats averaged 27.5 points allowed. In the last 8 with BB running the defense, they averaged 14.75 points allowed.

Haha, owned.

Mangini 10-6 and a playoff berth.

Crenell on the chopping block.

"Mangenius"

The sad thing about Crennel is that the best thing for the franchise is to play Brady from day 1 but that is really going to cement a 3-13 season which will get him cut loose.

If I had a choice of a guy to bring back - either Crennel or Mangini - to serve in some sort of defensive coach/asst. to BB, I would pick Crennel in a heartbeat. No question. I like Dean Pees as the DC at this point, but Crennel is an incredibly valuable guy to have around.

Maybe he's not a great HC, maybe he entered an untenable situation, maybe both. But just in terms of talent, experience, history, production - he's a no-brainer upgrade over Manginin IN THAT ROLE.

You might want to purchase hooked on phonics and work out your %'s for playoff teams compared to those not in the tournament.

Yeah, this is their time of year all right.

How's that Kendall thing working out for them?????? Let's see how Mangenius handles his T. O...............

Man Im so glad we got the good D co-ordinator.

Mangini > Crennel

in fact...

Mangini > All

My lasting memory of Mangini is BB *****ing him out in the last few minutes of Super Bowl XXXIX after his defensive secondary completely blew an assignment that led to Philly's last TD. Anyone who thinks Mangini is better than Crennel is out of his mind.

I doubt Crennel would come back, even if he is fired.

The Pats don't need a new DC. Pees is doing just fine.

Thank you. That's the only fact that's important in this situation. The D played great last season with 3 starters going to IR (Wilson, Harrison, Seau) and a beat up Seymour manning the line. Pees is doing a great job, has the respect of the players and coaching staff, and doesn't need the HC to do his job.

That being said, the first priority is to hope RAC keeps his job. He'd certainly be welcomed back in an advisory role if the situation arose. However, don't think for a second that there won't be intense competition for his services as the DC for many teams including the Jests. Not sure about his relationship with Mangini or whether he could stomach having him as a boss . . .

The Browns play the Jets this season. Golden Dome versus Chadwick. Worst game on the NFL schedule.

LMFAO!!!

Is that a joke. That is purely the most idiotic comment ever.

When Mangini too over our team was total mess, we had an O-line that was so bad we went through 5 different QB's in a season and finished next to last in the league in rushing. Umm the Browns O-line was worse and their top FA acquisition (LeCharles Bentley) went down in the first practice and was lost for the season. It was thought for a little while his career was over and there were a couple of times his doctors contemplated amputating his leg because of serious infections post surgery. He is just begging to get back now. Besides, how can you blame the O-line for fragile Pennington's injuries?

A QB who's career was in serious jeoprady, and no depth at all behind him. The Browns had no pro caliber QB's AT ALL. We'll see if Quinn turns into anything but as of right now, they still don't have a pro caliber QB.

A RB who Herm edwards had left crippled and barely able to walk, our depth?? Derrick Blaylock Who did the Browns have for a RB? Rueben Droughns and Lee Suggs, yeah powerhouses! Droughns only averaged 3.4 yards per carry for them last year.

A defence who had lost one of our best players and best P rusher in J Abraham, also lost Ty Law (1st string corner) and were enetering a 3-4 system despite having personnel totally suited to the 4-3. The Browns have NO defense. At least Mangini had something to work with.

If thats not a shambles, WHAT IS????

The Cleveland Browns. If you don't know about them then I guess you could make a statement like you did but obviously you know nothing about that team.

Crennel had even LESS to work with than what Mangini started off with. Not to mention their bad luck and issues with stupid (Winslow) players.

The Browns drafted their franchise LT this year and potential franchise QB who is still a rook and hasn't even signed a contract yet. They drafted a TE that is just now coming into his own after a serious motorcycle accident. Their Pro-bowl caliber C (Bentley) is just coming back from a serious and career threatening injury. They drafted some D and acquired some D vets (McGinest but really how much does he have left?). I would say that right now they are almost to where the Jets were when Mangini took over but not quite. Lets see what happens this year.

Count me as one who finds this thread distasteful. RAC is loved by the players in NE and the last thing they would want to see is Crennel struggling with an inept franchise. Also it took Crennel a long, long time to finally get the head job that he always wanted.

Good luck Romeo.

Why not? If there was no other coaching jobs available why would New England be unthinkable?

To me the idea of leaving as an AC to Belichick to move to bigger and better things only to fail miserably and come crawling back just doesn't seem like something he would want to do.

Obviously I don't know him personally so I don't really know but he could view it as a big step backwards and he also might fear that if he does he'll be stuck with the label of assisstant to Bill Belichick forever. I'm sure Belichick felt the same way about Parcells after his failed stint in Cleveland but he went back to work again under Parcells. I just think that is an unusual case and I don't know if Crennel would do the same. He might want to try his hand in college instead.

Believe me though, I would love to have him back. We are better with him than we are with out him so if he came back I would be thrilled. But right now I am rooting for him to succeed in Cleveland.

I am definitely one who hopes Crennel keeps his job and turns it around with the Browns. I agree with others. I am more than satisfied with Dean Pees. In fact, I may prefer Pees to either Crennel or Mangini (I was less than impressed with Mangini's one year at DC). Pees seemed to get a lot from less talent than Crennel had in 2003 and 2004.
