Well Aaron Dobson working with Brady/Grop and the First Team have me very optimistic. "IF' Aron can some how shake the injury Bug I would love to see what he can do. I heard he worked out alot with DeAdre Hopkins in he offseason any of Hopkins that rubs off on him have to be a good thing.

DeAndre Carter was working with them, too. Given that Edelman/Amendola/Hogan were all out of practice, it's pretty meaningless.

He very well may not have it. I don't think he does but you hate to give up on a young player who has been here for going on 4 years now. Clearly BB is hopeful he can contribute but there is no question he has put Dropson on notice.

To me, there is no denying that he has the ability and physical tools to play at this level and do some good things out on the football field. However, being prone to injuries to his feet, inconsistent and not playing special teams kills his value to the club. If hes not a playmaker then hes subject to being in the pressbox on gameday.

If the guy can haul in 2 catches and 30 yards a game as the 4th WR that'll put him at 36/480. I'd take that from a WR4 any day of the week. I think he is capable of it but for 3 years clearly has not done so for multiple reasons.
I agree completely. I'll only add that he better develop some confidence quickly. The picture is more grim than sunny him at this point, no matter what Patsfans.com is trying to convince me. Lol

No question. If I was a betting man based on his history and lack of special teams value hes a gonner.

With that said I'm assuming that Jules, DA and others that I expect to make the team are healthy If not, that might buy him some time.

PB: the Patriots Drafted Aaron Dobson with the potential of him becoming a Big Play threat down Field he's not a possession guy. A 6'3 WR who can make Big plays down field should be an advantage. I am hoping this is the year Aaron puts it all together.

I'm in lockstep, friend. Injuries to others, sadly, is his best bet. His defenders look at the fact that he's still here and/or taking first team reps as solely an indication that the coaching staff still sees something in him. They don't fathom that it has something to do with who else is available, be it in the draft, free agency or health within the team. Keyshawn Martin was starting over him within a week of being signed last season. He was still healthy at the time. That speaks volumes and leads me to believe that if the competition in camp was as strong last year as it is this year, then Dobson could have been gone already. If I'm Dobson, I'm playing BB's interview about this being the best WR competition he's seen in my mind every night before bed.

Does that mean he plans to hold out like Hopkins is?

Not sure if this was already mentioned earlier in the thread...

Really good report from Pats camp....

This is why I'm wondering if they'll cut back on the number of ST-only players this year.

Do you have any specific players in mind, Deus? For me, a guy like Bolden who would normally make it due to his ST presence, likely fits this category. Seeing his lack of even mediocre production in the running game last year has brought me to this possibility.

Gost, Allen, Cardona, Slater, Ebner and King (possibly to a lesser extent) all seem to be locks to me.

Nobody in particular, but I think this is a year where 'worthy' positional players are abundant enough that it puts pressure on those guys. With a guy like Martin, for example, does his ST ability make him worth keeping as a WR5/WR6, over an ST-only guy, if it comes to that?

I know the reasons why he was drafted. We all do. That's not what's in question. What's in question are the reasons why he has not made the big plays down the field or any other part of it. What's in question is why he can't stay on said field. What's in question more than anything is his very roster spot.

No disrespect, but I'm done with Dobson for now. I've talked more Dobson in three days than I have his whole career. Those who wish to wait for this potential that keeps being mentioned (going on season 4) have every right. I hope it works out. I, on the other hand, am done until he gives me a reason to welcome him back into my football life, and that's strictly as a football player since I don't know the guy personally. I've grown exhausted with talk of potential and upside and how this will be his year, even though there has been ZERO evidence of that except his breakout practice performances...the same ones he's put up in past off seasons that led to nothing. Show and prove against real competition in the preseason games or GTFOH.

Skeptical of Dobs but before I give up on the kid I'm waiting to see his game performance and durability. So is BB.

There's Nink shadowing Cardona for his job.
Then again (@TC) it seems he's after everybody's job.

Yep, I think that WR Martin is a fine example of someone who could get the nod due to his ST play. While we're on the topic of WRs, I'm wondering how likely it may be that they end up keeping an extra receiver?

I know that past history goes against this thinking, but having someone like Edelman start the year on PUP (or even Tom's suspension) may increase the odds, at least for the first 4-6 games. Perhaps Dobson sticks around a month longer than we expected?
