Tarik Glenn retiring

The Colts didn't spend a 1 and a 2 on Ugoh. They traded one of their 3 fourth round picks from 2007 and their first round pick from 2008.
That makes it a little better - like with all teams trading a future #1, though, the wrong injury this year will make that trade look horrible for years to come. Who is the backup QB now, anyway ;)

It was well known at the time that the Colts needed to move Faulk, so they couldn't get his true worth in a trade.
And that couldn't have been the GM's fault, now, could it :D

Don't get your hopes too high just yet Pats fans. Reports all over the place including Adam Schefter are that Tarik has NOT made a decision.
He just wants some of that money Freeny freed up. He'll have zero leverage next year if they bring Ugoh along as a LT.

someone needs to remind him of how much work training camp is.

Anyways I'm sure the Colts have somebody to plug in and not miss a beat.

the good news with him not being there is that they don't receive a bunch of false start penalties. But that's about it.

Just hoping you're wrong

Give it two weeks and Glenn will be like Harper and June and Rhodes and the rest of the departed. Glenn really wasn't that good. He only made probowls because the OG, C, and Manning made him look good. In four weeks, Ugoh will be a much better LT prospect than Glenn ever was. In six weeks, we will learn from Colts fans they Glenn was going to be cut, and decided to retire to save face.

No sarcasm, just a prediction.

Maybe it's all about money...

From what I've been reading that's not the case. It jusy seems like right now he doesn't want to play anymore. Who knows if a little more money or a little more time will change that feeling.

What's the difference? They'll just plug in another player to hold the oppoing DE...

Sorry, quite right. And there's no question that Polian has rolled the dice very well in past drafts. I'll still call this pick a poor value, though. A #1 to get a 2nd-rounder in a very weak draft class...and NOT a suprise drop but simply a round-2 prospect with some major question marks around him. It's a classic need-based reach.

That being said, I may be seeing this through Pats-draft glasses. Ugoh was a guy I crossed off my Patriots board early. An ideal Pats OL prospect is in the Logan Mankins mode: Maybe not the most imposing physical specimen but extremely quick, technically sound, great with his hands and feet, a hard-working team leader off the field and a nasty bastard on it. That is NOT Tony Ugoh. But in another system he may well flourish.

Well I was very happy with how the offseason unfolded before this Glenn thing. If he ends up coming back, so be it, it's been a very solid offseason for us and for us with respect to the Colts' offseason . . . if Glenn does retire, all the better.

Even if he does come back, you'd have to question how effective he'll be if he's seriously thinking about retirement. Honestly, it's the "short timers syndrome" you see at work when a guy already has one foot out the door. Is Tarik Glenn really going to put his heart and soul into it if he needs to be coaxed back into playing one more year?

Call me crazy but if I'm the Pats, my whole defensive gameplan against the Colts this year is to load up that right side against Glenn and make him prove that he's still got it.
