It's easy, and only takes a few moments. It's tempting to think of all that's happened since as pre-determined or magical, but the truth is even better. It was an extremely well-coached team who did their job better than the guy lined up across from them, and when their teammates needed them most, they responded spectacularly.

See? It wasn't because of the Tuck Rule.
That's a Joke, right?
You'd have to be a drooling Idiot to think that it was because of the Tuck Rule.
"The Patriots Dynasty was born because the Refs did their Jobs." OK.
Anyway: The Raiders owed us one.
Dude!! Just the fact you had to ask if I was joking is hurtful. Wow.
Yes the Refs did their jobs but the dynasty, imo, was already born whether they won that game or not. BB, Brady and the rest were going to win eventually.
I don't buy into the analogy that Tuck Rule game was the birth of a dynasty as it implies that without that game they would not have been. They would have been and have been for following years and still going.
I'm going to my room now to have a good cry.
What a hurtful and mean thing to say.

Toward the very end and after the game in Oakland was over on December 18, 1976, I felt hollow and empty inside. Years of work and hope were washed away that day, in an ocean of non-flags and then flags at the end of what will remain forever the single most lopsided stolen game by an officiating crew in the history of professional sports. It's sad that Kraft continues to go along with Orthwein's ignorant and insulting perpetration of the stupid, ugly flying elvis when he still could, today, give Brady the opportunity to play AND look like a champion as Montana did.I personally love the fact that the Raiders and their fans think they got screwed by the ref in the 2001 playoffs. It's especially enjoyable because it came 25 years after the Pats did get screwed by Ben Dreith, which likely cost the Pats their first SB win.
Free at last. Free at last. Thank Walt Coleman we're free at last!

I don't hate on Madden that much. He had a point and was voicing what I'm sure many people were thinking. Of course he underestimated the most clutch QB in history and the best coaching staff in the league.Ha, just watched again. So enjoyable with your contribution.
BTW, I love Madden's analysis here. He isn't a fan boy, or a soothsayer, he honestly felt that starting at the 17, [with a green QB] playing for overtime was the way to go. He indicated his ultimate respect for Brady and Weiss as they made the plays, and I loved it!
Maybe if they were wearing the beautiful Flying Elvis that day things could have been different.Toward the very end and after the game in Oakland was over on December 18, 1976, I felt hollow and empty inside. At the time I wanted them to go all out to try to win on that drive. Risky as it was, I also felt that we were in trouble if the Rams got the ball back again. After a stellar defensive game the Rams had finally hit their stride...just felt like it was our best chance and I was surprised as anybody how beautiful (and successful) that drive was.
Thanks .... Great post. I've always maintained the play by Redmond where he stretched for the first down and got out of bounds is the single most underrated play in Pats history.

Two things could happen. One, we lose the toss and kick the ball away or, two, they kick off to us and we have the ball deep in our territory, i.e., right where we were anyway. In either scenario we would have to execute well without a turnover...so why risk having to give up the ball due to a coin flip?
