2016 OL situation clearing ...

I too question the credibility of PFF, but in this case I think you undervalue Kline. He could start on most teams, I think. Here, he's a valuable backup across the interior. Solid, still developing player.
Kline is not good and if he starts for your team you are weak at that spot.

In one of the studies, they measured it two different ways.

1. A player with less than a 5 value score from pro-football-reference.com

2. A player who starts less than a year or who accumulated less than 40 games in their career.

The chance of a bust in the NFL draft

If you expect all late third round picks to be career starters, you will live a life of disappointment

We've got a lot of competition, which is great. I hope we're developing a swing tackle who can actually play left tackle in a pinch.

Scar was involved in drafting nearly all of them.
Um, Florida Gator Jon Halapio? He was like a poster child of an anti-Scar guy. That was Dave DeGuglielmo's first year.

I'm guessing Dante was NOT involved with this selection, which was more about size and power and less about intelligence and athleticism that have characterized Patriot OLs of the past.

Does anyone know if Dante went to Gainesville that year? I thought his GPS only headed to Tallahassee when he's in the Sunshine State.

My binkie Andrews continues to make me look good. I predicted last TC that he would make the team and contribute. He did just that. And word is he has looked really good on OTA's, albeit not in pads.

C- Stork/Andrews- I really like Stork but it's still a competition. Same goes for both guard spots.,

LG- Mason/Cooper Belichick loves Mason but if Scar can get Cooper playing to his ability it will be up for Grabs. However if both play at a high level, you could see a shake up where one moves to RG.

RG-I think it starts out as Jackson/Thuney but ultimately they will start the two best guards regardless of side they play better on.

I agree with those who think a trade is possible for future draft picks. Karras to PS and Kline either gets moved for a late round pick or released.

The ability to run behind this Two TE offense is going to really help the OL. Their predictability the second half of lat season put them at a serious disadvantage and put Brady under intense pressure the rest of the season, the Two TE offenses and Jumbo packages they can put out this season should help remedy that problem. They are going to be able to, throw the ball effectively out of their Jumbo, packages and that's going to be a nightmare for opposing defenses.

I can actually see a scenario, where Williams comes in as an extra Tackle and they split Gronk and Bennett out with either Lewis or a Blount in the backfield and Edelman in the slot. Good luck stopping that.

Waddle was an average starting LOT for the Lions before he was injured and the Pats picked him up as (hopefully temporarily) damaged goods.

I believe one has to be on the 53 and then active before this becomes a possibility.

After seeing how thin the OL got late last season, positional flexibility should be the prime factor this year. Trying different players at different positions is essential, including TE Williams at tackle. Also, I hope that BB assigns one of his young coaching assistants to apprentice under Scar as a potential future line coach.

Really?

And there I was thinking they could use a player who wasn't on their roster during games?

Thanks for clearing that up.

Thanks for clearing that up.

The point is that Williams is unlikely to make the roster.

We are weak at that spot. Very weak.
Hopefully the draft picks from the last 2 years plus cooper will give us two starters that aren't so weak as Kline.

According to who?

I think they are going with four TEs because the Two TE offense is going to be central to their offense. Williams also provides position flexibility as a back up TE, OT, and in Jumbo packages. Much as I like Develin he doesn't provide anywhere near the flexibility Williams does. Right now I have Williams over Develin.

Beyond that mgteich all NB I said was that I could envision a scenario where that package was on the field., and I don't think we should have to qualify every statement like "Nate Washington can provide a deep threat," or " Develin gives them a receiving option out of the backfield," with the condition of "if he makes the team, " I think everyone already knows they have to make the team to be productive for them.

Waddle has never started at LT for Detroit.

I hope so too, but unfortunately we currently have absolutely nobody on the roster who comes even
remotely close to being able to be developed as a Swing Tackle.

OK, I can envision Edelman playing quarterback. Is that relevant?
