Yet signing an aging CB with an injury history at $16M year 1 then $17M year 2 was just fine?
Yup, Revis is and will be well worth it. Even if he has a down year, his work ethic and leadership also add to the team. Hopefully next off-season a cheaper (but still expensive) longer-term deal can be worked out to keep him in Green for the rest of his career.
Now $7M for the most important position in the game is too much?
Whilst the Ostweilers of this world are getting $18M?
Absolutely. Though that's just my opinion. Most fans, and it would seem Woody, Macc and Bowels, think Fitz is worth 7mil. Ostweiler? **** I dunno, maybe the Texans see a great young QB they can build around for the next decade after he started 7 games?
God, the Jets and their fans are so f****d!
You got nothing. Front-load the piss out of a contract with Fitzy to get him signed, and see what happens --- you literally have no other choice. Make it look sexy but make sure you can cut him a year from now, at most two.
EDIT: Such an approach allows both sides to save face, but the bottom line is you can flush Fitzy down the toilet next year if he sucks.
Meanwhile, if some third stringer needs a face to punch, Geno is still around!
All is well in the Jets world (except you fired that toe-sucking pervert!)
Front-load the contract? Man we're tight with cap this year. We'll have to do some restructuring just to sign the recent FAs, sign rookies and have an in-season emergency fund. Come 2017 we're in good shape again. What worries me is that it's very possible to free up a TON of money for this season re-working a few deals and even dropping some older vets. Really hope that's not done for Fitz. If there was a better option sure.
But I'd prefer to just roll with $1.6mil Geno and see what he has with a good team. Been said before, but he shouldn't have been starting his first couple years and the offense around him BLEW. Wouldn't mind seeing what he can do with a good offense and a few years under his belt now.
If he stinks, oh well, start Petty the second half of the season and see what we have in him. Don't settle for expensive-mediocrity with Fitz.
