The only way that happens is if the Pats fail to roll over salary cap space left over from a given year. Say whatever you want about him, but that's something AFAIK Kraft has never done. He has spent essentially 100% of the cap dollars he's been given.

FWIW that was said just for effect. I have no problems with Kraft and I'm not one that calls him cheap.. I just know a lot of people do so I say that to prove the point I don't want them go overpay for these guys like everyone is lol

Welker was a JAG before the pats picked him up as well. Hogan is a classic patriot.

Welker was not a JAG. Welker was the most dynamic player on the Phins. He put up a good number of receptions despite the QB carousel they had going on. Not to mention the horrible O-line and lack of help at RB. It's amazing how people re-write history to make it look like Welker wasn't already breaking out prior to the Pats getting him.

Welker returned punts, was an emergency kicker and emergency punter for the Phins before the Pats "traded" for Welker. Acting like Welker was magically transformed by Brady and BB is being dishonest.

Yeah, somewhat hard to believe that we would not meet those Matthews or Forte numbers . . . .
I am a big fan of value signings and generally like our reluctance in not paying top dollar for questionable players, but I think Forte at $4M (if that's the number) is a no-brainer.

Wow, with the numbers coming out for Matthews and Forte, I'm sitting here scratching my head.....why the heck couldn't offer the exact same or slightly higher?

Matthews isn't worth 5mil a year.
Forte wasn't going to come here and split the job with Lewis. It was never a possibility.

That trio still wouldn't give the Pats what the need at WR, but I'd definitely take it. Weddle would make the big nickel packages very interesting, to say the least.

Yeah...at this point I just don't know what else is out there at WR.

Looks like the Pats really have their eyes on the RFA market this year: CJ Anderson, Chris Hogan, Benny Cunningham. All 3 have a common feature - all low round tenders who were undrafted, so the compensation is only right of first refusal to original team. Let's see if they can come to agreements with any of these guys.

The idea that Seguin shot his way out of town. The issue was the coaching staff misusing Seguin.

They asked him to bring it every night and he didn't. He scored 67 points his second year in the league. He easily would have been a point a game guy here- just like he is in DAL. Neely and Chiraelli pleaded with him to raise his game. They even gave him big money. He hated Claude's system and shot his way out of town by dogging it in 2013.

That's a great deal, and yes, it's being reported by Ian rapaport. Oakland may have just leap frogged Denver for that division. In fact they may be a top 3 AFC team.

Right now as it stands they beat you on the road. At Gillette it's probably in the Pats favor.

I wouldn't be surprised if they do attempt a restructure. But I don't think they'd cut him, even at $6.8m his cap hit looks reasonable compared to what's coming out in free agency for far inferior players. I suspect he's gone next year, though.

Meh. 6.8m for a 31 year old WR doesn't add up. He needs to get down to $3m or he is gone.

LOL that's the same group as last year, expect you swap in Hogan for LaFell and a minus a backup TE after cutting Chandler.

Not exactly an improvement.

When Lewis, Amendola, and Edelman were all healthy, it was an offense on an historical pace. Chandler was horrible and LaFell mostly useless and Dobson didn't play that much. Hogan would be an important piece because he offers versatility in case of injury, can be productive with a decent amount of snaps, and plays special teams.
