Why does he need this if he only has a bone bruise? I hate to stir up panic but it's probably worse than a bone bruise.

You clearly have no idea what a bone bruise actually is. It's actually a very serious injury.

He played in the Super Bowl in the 2011 season too. Playing and being Gronk are not necessarily the same thing.

I wouldn't take that as a given. They are not explosive, but their running game and Smith's legs will stress our defense. With Edelman and Gronk hobbled, I'm not sure who on our team is going to worry them.
