Steelers at Bengals - AFC Wild Card Game

Brown looked to be out cold (or damned close to it) immediately after the hit and he has a concussion. That didn't just "look bad".
So what? There is at least 5 incidents a game where a reciever gets hit in the shoulder neck area where no flag is thrown. Case in point edleman getting blasted by kam Chancellor in the 4 th quarter of the super bowl. No flag

Have you guys ever seen a game that had harder hitting than this one? I really can't recall too many, if any lool

I can think of plenty before the rule changes. Not bad for today's day and age though.

Brown diagnosed with a concussion

Jones diagnosed with, as the saying goes, "knocked the &^%$ out" - he wasn't just concussed he was literally unconscious on that hit and is lucky if he doesn't have a bruised spinal column or cracked vertebrae. His head was both twisted and knocked backward both on the initial hit and with the ground when he fell.

Doesn't matter. Refs have always been hair-trigger about contact with a ref. Put a hand on one and you're getting flagged, no matter how "minor" it is. Nothing new.
Agreed, can't believe people are arguing this. Remember when Cary Williams in the SB was ejected I mean fined I mean nothing for this

And we face a KC team without Maclin. Jeebus you guys...you really think Cincy would have been an easy win for the Pats? Or that Pitt will be an easy win for the Broncos?

Once you get to the Divisional Round, there are no more Houstons to be found. Pick your poison. And if you can't beat them, you don't deserve to go to the Superbowl. Good grief - some of you get it in your heads that this team or that team magically becomes better or worse because of a few plays and we have to have that exact scenario or we're screwed!!!!!!

I wonder how many Broncos fans are whining that the Pats get KC without Maclin and with Houston clearly gimpy...

In the end, it's simple: if the Pats are the team we saw earlier in the year, they're going to win. If they're the team we saw the last two weeks,, it's all irrelevant anyway.
You don't get it. Pittsburgh without Brown, possibly Williams, and a broken bburger, have no chance in Denver. I'm not *****ing about not getting cinci, I'm confident we take care of KC. I was just hoping that whoever gets to go to Denver takes the donkeys out so we don't have to travel to Mile High.

Obviously if KC were to go to Denver and won we would have had to face them in AFCCG anyways, but at least in that scenario the AFCCG would have been at Gillette instead of that cursed house of horror. Say what you want, but historically we have not had good luck at that place.

Yeah I wanted to bring up that incident too.
We all know what would've happened if that had been a Pats player.

I just re watched the 2nd half of the game.

I don't see how Marvin Lewis keeps his job. His team/coaches/players acted like a bunch of childish punks throughout the game which ultimately lost them the game.

Marvin has no control over his team. It was disgusting and sad. It would have been a nice "McCarron helps Cinci get their first playoff win" story but now it's Cinci imploded in the last minute of the game.

I get it plenty. I watched Ben finish the game last night. He'll play in Denver. I have no idea on Brown.

When we lost in Miami, we were likely Denver bound, but neither New England nor Denver have earned the right to play in the AFCCG yet, have they?

If the Pats are thinking like you, they'll look a lot like Denver did last year against the Colts.

Excoriating rebuke from the Cincinnati press..

No one is a bigger stickler for decorum on the field than Marvin Lewis. And yet he enjoys players who live on the edge of control. Always has, since the days of Odell Thurman. That’s fine: Every team would like to have players with the talent and fury of Burfict and Jones.

But when the fury escapes from the leash and costs you games, the coach is going to be the one held accountable. The irony is, Lewis likely saved Jones’ career, and gave life to Burfict’s. Now, he’s open to criticism because he can’t control their behavior on the field.

There will be Next Times, but there will never be another This Time. This time, the Bengals had the better team. The best team, in fact, that they’ve had in the Marvin Lewis era. “This is the best team I’ve ever been on. That’s the most disappointing part,’’ said Andrew Whitworth, here a decade.

I was thrilled Burfict made the int, but when the moron started running the the wrong direction out of the endzone and out of the stadium, just to show off, I was hoping he wasn't touched and they would call it a safety against Cincy. Also he came back to the field with his helmet off, that should've been a penalty.

But even with THAT gift by the refs for not flagging them for excessive celebration or delay of game or taking off your helmet (a 15 yard penalty)
I was perplexed by the wrong direction run into the endzone at that point in the game, and I am surprised that I have seen no media criticism of it. It seemed like a bunch of other Bengals joined in too. I think there were about 90 seconds left in the game at that point: why couldn't they have waited a few minutes before celebrating?

One thing I really appreciated about the Bengals' play was that it made me appreciate Belichick and the Patriots all the more.

Yeah I think that Bill runs the same play too, but Hill just HAS to know to simply go down when he feels contact. They would've had 2 other snaps to try to gain the 1st down.

Hill might as well not go home tonight until…the end of time.
Wasn't Hill running with just one hand on the ball? I'd have thought at least he'd have had both arms around the ball in that situation.

Porter should have been flagged for being off the sidelines and for taunting.
Do you have any evidence that Porter was "taunting" (other than Jones' instagram comments)?

And can you cite the rule you believe Porter violated by being on the field? (Again, other than Jones' instagram claim that this was rules violation).

ok..so the question is, who is allowed onto the field? There was an injury to a star player sand we have seen head coaches go on the field in these situations. But Porter? If he is not allowed on the field, how could the refs all miss it and at the minimum, how can you call just one penalty on pac man and not porter as well standing in the middle of the field yapping.

Whether he was allowed or not Cinci needed to get away from the situation. Pittsburgh still had a 47 field goal to kick in tough weather conditions. Instead they gifted them 15 yards.

I still can't believe the morning after what happened last night, could it be one of the worst meltdowns in NFL, nay, sports history?

If this is true, this proves the refs f--ked up by not calling offsetting penalties, and by f--king up another important NFL game in the process. This league is lucky people are addicted to fantasy football and gambling, because the product on the field (and the sucky refs) make it hard to watch a lot of times.

the refs were instructed to take the opportunity if it presented itself

anything to make the pats prospects more difficult......they wanted the chiefs here, not the bengals

they are dying to get Manning to the superbowl even though the broncos will get completely destroyed there

Says a lot about the first game of Blandino's expanded role during the playoffs.

You get the first down and win the game. You're not crazy enough to think BB wouldn't be doing that exact same thing, are you?

Not at that position on the field he wouldn't. The only way that Cincy could lose that game was by running a play and allowing their RB to be held up while they stripped him of the ball. BB (and everyone outside of Deusville) knows that and would have gone kneel, kneel, kneel, kick.
