Referee NFL Conspiracy

the picture doesn't support anything other than it looks like the defender was pushed away

Sigh...

1. You said he was pushed in the back. He wasn't. There was arm-fighting and it was Martin'shands on the guy's shoulder pads.

2. It's not by chance that Gannon laughed and said Grimes was doing some acting.

Regardless, the photo shows Grimes facing Martin, which is what I said I saw. But it was the type of thing that could be called OPI but rarely ever is. Same thing happened 8 times yesterday as I was watching the games.

How easy is it to throw a *** when Martin grabs a very long pass for a big gain on 3rd down. You see the catch, throw the flag. Voila. Big gain gone. All it takes really is a predisposition to throw a flag against the Patriots, and that's exactly what is going on.

Its to the point where its very difficult to get excited and enjoy a play in the moment, I'm always like "OMG HUGE GAIN, IS THERE ANY FLAGS!?," and I certainly don't know what percent or anything, it feels like a lot of our "OMG HUGE PLAYS" are called back on a flag

That being said, there was nothing I saw during the Miami game that he me really upset about the officiating other than the Martin OPI, but by the rule they can get him easy on that one.. would have been nice of them to just let them play, but a Patriot player isn't going to get away with fully extended arms, etc.. just gotta be smarter.

The Refs don't even need to job us on calls right now with the way the team has been playing, but this team needs to get healthy and be good enough to overcome the horrible BS calls we'll be getting in the playoffs, especially if we're @ Denver again and the NFL can have their PEDton Manning comeback story extravaganza

I find it a bit hard to believe that the NFL* is colluding with the refs against the Pats. I just don't think the "Clown Show on Park Ave" is competent enough to do it and not get caught. There's too much chance of one of the whistle blowers becoming a Whistle Blower.

Atrocious calls, especially in big situations, just don't happen to the Pats, or to even "just the "good" teams. Just ask the Lions. I think they've been on the receiving end of the Lion's Share of "wrong outcomes due to atrocious calls" lately.

You don't thin Blandino can say things like, "Pay special attention to offensive pass interference with the Patriots. They do it constantly."? Seems to me this is the sort of thing the ref's boss might say to them.

Blandino is the guy that lied about the sting operation. Then we see him overturning White's completed catch on the sidelines with no evidence to do so. My antennae went up as soon as I saw that.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the call that went to review, where Butler made the tackle and the receiver lost control of the ball when he hit the ground. Refs (probably Blandino) claimed the receiver had become a runner, but Perriera on TV thought it was a clear case the other way.

That was Mike Carey not Perriera, who is by far worse on TV than he was as a ref. I think it was correct call and would be extremely pissed off of that was a Pats player and they called it incomplete on review

I have wondered at times when it seemed as though the playcalling, or the execution by players on certain plays, or both, were so unbelievably bad as to seem scripted or tailored to a predetermined outcome...Then yesterday I noticed at one point in the second half that Belichick was standing on the sideline with nothing in his hands, not talking into his headset, just watching, and seemingly watching uninterestedly at that...I can't remember ever seeing him without the clipboard, analyzing/scheming for the next play or series...It seemed contrary to his very character.

Me TOO, on every big play i'm waiting for the flag. yesterday on whites catch and run my first thought was "flag, is there a flag, is the play going to be called back"?

Ya Carey is atrocious, and the right call was made.

Speaking as a gambler, that feeling permeates every team and every game. I agree, when you get a big play you have to hold your breath to make sure the play will stand.

Joey and others asked for the stats on what we've been saying in this thread. Here they are, 10% of the Patriots passing yards taken away with penalties, mainly OPI and holding:

Tom Brady Has Lost the Most Yardage To Penalties in 2015, More than #2 & #3 Combined

That's really interesting. I wonder what the expected value for #1 would be if it was projected based on the penalty yards for QBs ranked 10 (190 yards) through 2 (253 yards).

For the sake of argument, let's say it was projected to be close to 300 yards. Let's add 100 more yards on there, just because, putting the projected #1 value at approximately 400 yards. That would still be 100 yards less than the Patriots were penalized with 504 yards.

Like I said in a different thread, I don't have a problem with the Patriots being first in this category. They're a "pass first" team and someone has to be #1. When they nearly double the team in second place, though, that's unusual. Just based on the comparison I did on OPI in the past few years, I guarantee that large a disparity didn't exist last year or the year before that.

As fans, I think we have all watched games not involving the Patriots this year and said, after a completed pass due to an uncalled push off or pick play, "That's OPI!" It's not like the Patriots are the only team that does things like that, but the officials definitely called it much more against them than anyone else.

There comes a point where its obviously not a coincidence anymore... we passed that point after the Broncos game, but stuff like this just magnifies the obvious even more

The league does not want the Pats to win, knowing Goodell he is probably outraged that Brady won his federal appeal and wasn't suspended for the first 4 games..

I'd love to see the stats for big plays called back on holding or OPI. These have long been problem rules, along with DPI, that could be easily used to rig games. The advantage to OPI and holding is they don't show up on the stat sheet. I'm not sure what to make of this, but the picture is starting to become clear.

It is actually worse than what they say (10% of TB's Season yds), because many of those questionable penalties were 1 downs taken away on critical 3d down plays. Give TB a fresh set of downs, and who knows how many yds he gets in all.
