Referee NFL Conspiracy

save the irrelevant picture......I called the OPI before the refs did

So, the picture supports what I wrote (contrary to what you saw) and I'm supposed to be persuaded?

Do you know how silly you sound? "The Patriots are one of the least penalized teams, therefore there is clearly a referee conspiracy to hurt the Patriots!!!"?

Oh lord I can't believe people still haven't grasped the idea that it isn't how many penalties the Patriots get but the timing of them

BINGO!

Scripting games is an example of the "anything" they would do for profit. I don't think they are out to get the Pats. The Pats, well Brady, already received punishment for beating the chosen Seahawks in SB49. The Pats are just apart of the system like everybody else, who have been getting cheated or simply laying down to benefit certain teams. The Pats suspect play calling shows what they are willing to do for the greater good of the 32, because without the NFL, the Patriots are nothing, so they must stay in line and earn that paycheck, just like every other sucker. They know it's all about Cheaten Manning this season.

.

Yup, my only disagreement is I don't necessarily think that they can script the games. Too many players playing the game for it to be like WWE.

I do think the NFL has favorites for each game, though, and puts in the most input they can without NFL players and their coaches realizing what's going on.

But their favorite stories often don't work out. Just look at the 2013 Broncos as well, or the 2011 Packers, hell even the 08 Cardinals.

To me, the one time it worked out for them in the last few years was the 2012 Ravens.

I'm still not for certain though that they were all in on Seattle last year. They had to know that deflate gate was only going to fuel the Patriots fire, and make for a juicier story if they won. To me, what they're doing is trying to make the Patriots the villain, because they knew that making a crazy headline like deflategate only fuels the Patriots fire. The NFL doesn't have some evil empire against the Patriots exactly, they are just going for the money and what makes the Patriots more compelling. They decided at some point thy they wanted the Patriots to be the villain.

The only thing more pathetic than thinking the games are fixed and the refs are out to get the Patriots is thinking the games are fixed and the refs are out to get the Patriots but watching anyway.

The day I think the refs are conspiring to make sure the Patriots lose is the day I stop watching football.

To those of you so sure the refs are conspiring to see to it NE loses: why are you bothering to watch the games then?

Quick personal footnote, 5000th post baby

FACTS:

The Patriots were 5th in fewest penalties and 9th in fewest penalty yards called against them.

The Patriots were 18th in most penalties called against opponents and 8th in most penalty yards called against opponents.

If that's a league referee conspiracy to hurt the Patriots, then it looks like most crews didn't get the memo.

Lol that was a push off by Martin and I saw it right away. Take off your Tin foil hat for a second and stop making excuses like our team can't make any mistake without it being someone else's fault.

Sorry, Joey, but to push off, your hands actually have to touch the defender and cause him to move. That didn't happen.. The replay showed space between Martin's hands and the defender.. Hence, no push off.

Once again you show your ignorance of NFL rules, just like you did after the Buffalo game.

What I find interesting us how these "so called points of emphasis" come about and who they really affect. Last year when we got Browner and Revis, and the Seahawks had embarrassed PM and the Broncos, they decided to "re-emphasize illegal contact", this year Gronk looks unstoppable so they emphasize OPI and let him get mugged. Watch the Jets receivers play and they pick and push off like they have a get out of jail free card.

The prior "points of emphasis" on illegal contact were employed to open the offense and increase scoring. The thinking was more completions, more yards, and more points makes everyone happy, in the actual games and in fantasy football. It seems counter to this to emphasize OPI, which takes away offensive production.

The numbers Canuck posted are interesting, also. I don't have an issue with the Patriots being #1 in OPI. Somebody has to be first, New England is 5th in pass attempts, so it would be odd if they were in the bottom half of the league for OPI. Here are the OPI penalties for the 4 teams ahead of the Patriots in pass attempts: Ravens (3) Saints (3) Chargers (4) Lions (2). What doesn't add up is that the Patriots were penalized for this 11 times compared to 7 times for next most penalized team. When you look at previous seasons, that large of gap doesn't exist. That kind of disparity would suggest that something is going on beyond bad officiating/bad luck.

Even if you go by the eye test, the officials are letting OPI by other teams slide. The Dolphins got a 20+ yard play on a pass to a RB where Jamie Collins was picked by a receiver. It was the same kind of play where James White had a long catch and run wiped by an OPI penalty. Late in the Green Bay/Minnesota game last night, James Jones gave a defender a two handed shove to get free in the end zone. The Vikings were fortunate that Rodgers was off target and threw an interception because no flag was thrown. We'll see if the Patriots get the same sort of benefit in the playoffs or if they are held to a different standard.

I think it's possible. Not that the games are completely scripted, but they are designed to benefit certain outcomes. To achieve this outcome, they rely on coaches, refs, and certain players, players like Brady or Romo who are close with ownership and very loyal to the league.

° Bad playcalling - can make any team look worse than they actually are. People here are complaining about the lack of WRs here, but the WRs are the same guys from last year minus Edelman. The O-line has always been rather suspect, which is why I didn't react much to the injuries on it. The coaching has just been brutal lately, and done in a way to keep the scores close. Same could be said about GB.

° Refs - can determine the outcome of any game with a throw of a flag. We talk about OPI and DPI but these calls are highly subjective depending on the ref or the league's agenda. These refs are usually tolerable, until the chosen team starts losing. Fans have been fuming over refs for the past 6-7 years. The league's failure to create suspensions, or fines for ref mishaps to protect the so-called "integrity" of the game, shows that the refs are doing what is expected of them.

° Certain Players - are notified when to throw the game. A perfect example of this would be the GB/SEA playoff game last season. 4th quarter of that game was unreal and not in a good way. GB's D, clearly stopped playing, so that SEA could win in OT. Matthews on the bench during that final drive, in a playoff game, didn't make sense to me. Rodgers had a bum leg, but he was hitting his WRs in the back with the ball, none of them made no attempt to catch his passes. Media called it a meltdown by GB, or playing not to lose, I called it a fix.

What Fitzpatrick did against BUF yesterday is an example of a player being told to throw the game.

What Palmer and Brady did were examples of them helping make Newton's MVP case. The award is irrelevant to me, but it makes stars out of players. The league is creating stars, because they are losing their biggest ones to father time.

What NE did against MIA was coaches throwing the game to benefit Manning's comeback and SB push.

NO/CAR and DEN/Pats games were determined by refs.

Regarding SB49 - The 32, had gone out of their way to make Russell Wilson a star. He was everywhere last season and he was everywhere during the off season. It was suppose to be Luck and Wilson but Brady refused to lose to Luck and he ended up advancing to the SB, which is why deflategate came to fruition and Mort was fed lies. I think the Pats were supposed to make Wilson look "strong," but when the rookie [Butler] got put in the game, no-one informed him of that. So Seattle ended up losing. The NFL who always controls its narrative through the media made sure the discussion focused on how Carrol's decision cost them the game vs Brady's sensational play, when it mattered. It didn't take long for the league to attack the Pats with a Brady suspension, fines and draft picks. Why did they punish the team if their report exonerated them? They were possibly being punished for winning the SB.

The Brady vs Manning debate is a huge seller for the NFL. I don't think either of them were meant to win another ring. Brady winning his 4th crushed that debate. How can the NFL restore balance into the debate, especially if Manning can't go on for another season.

Well... They give Manning another ring for starters.

Whoa that was longer than I intended.

Ehh that's a little past my line of thinking. I just don't think all those players could keep such a thing a secret. Some retired player would eventually come out and tell about everything the NFL does. I think it's simply the owners and the Commish who oversee these things, with a few head ref officials also having a little involvement.

It looked like he pushed off to get separation. Defender did a stanislavski but, nevertheless, refs are looking at the catch and it looks like no separation without the push off.

No conspiracy, maybe not as obvious as it looked in real time, though.

Then where was the call on Jennings (or was it Parker?) when he did that to Ryan (thereby preventing an interception)?

Yes, the Patriots have been playing bad the last few weeks, playing bad today as well...

But the OPI on Keyshawn Martin after the long passing play? Are you kidding me?

We have Dolphins draped all over Patriots, giving them full body chucks 10-15 yards downfield with absolutely no call. Gronk in particular has people grabbing his arm when he's going up for a catch, or getting two hand chucks when the ball is coming.

We've seen this over and over all year.

I have fought this urge for a very long time to say the NFL has colluded with the refs to fix things Wrold Wrestling style, but I'm at the end now.

Someone, lease, what explains these calls?
Sigh...

I dunna know about a conspiracy per se but I am uneasy about Dean Blandino being the eye in the sky and NFL Security up the Pats' arse come game day.

Its almost like they are racially profiled and arrested without cause.

Note: No disrespect to any posters who have been profiled. I couldn't think of a better analogy.

I saw the play, looked more like slight contact and a good sell flop by the defender to me....

That's what I saw too, a flop.

If there's any flag on that play it's unsportsmanlike conduct on Grimes.

the original play shows a fully extended arm in the back of a defender....whether it turned into a flop or not, the flag will get thrown on that

We must be talking about two totally different plays:

They really should fire the Dolphins DB coach. Looks like they been taught to fly backwards away from the receiver. Although if you think about it, he just might have had a little help from Martin. I'm not saying he did but I can see why the officials just might think something might have happened.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the call that went to review, where Butler made the tackle and the receiver lost control of the ball when he hit the ground. Refs (probably Blandino) claimed the receiver had become a runner, but Perriera on TV thought it was a clear case the other way.
