You guys hoping to move into new poster rating dealies crack me up.

When replying to a post this is what matters to me:

1) What the person is saying
2) See above

This is what doesn't matter:
9) Whether or not you will have sex with me.
Hah! Well knowing that many of the posters here are male, and what the average age is of many of those posters, I'd say that I'd have to agree with you there... ;)

Board Rules (the Unwritten)
#1 Membership in one of the two board Groups is mandatory. You will become a Homer or a Negative Nancy™ even if we have to kidnap and brainwash you to get you to do it.
#2 Once in a group, you are contractually obligated to only use the most insulting and exaggerated rhetoric when describing the thoughts and/or actions of the other group. (Duh)
#3 When someone in the opposing group says something that doesnt comply with #2 you MUST none-the-less act like they've personally insulted you, which of course they have.

About some of the groups.
- Homers are incapable of thinking on their own, let alone managing anything approaching critical thinking
- You are a Homer if you have ever used the words "Lets wait and see" or used any combination of other words with similar idiomatic meaning.
- You immediately become a Homer if you have ever used the words "In" or "Belichick" or "I" or "Trust". Doesn't matter if you used them in the same sentence or not, just that you have ever used them at some point in your life.
-You irrevocably become a Homer if you ever, ever disagree with any of the founding Negative Nancies. Just. Dont. Do. It.
- If you become a Negative Nancy, you are immediately granted Belichick and McDaniel mind reading powers. These supernatural powers also extends to Coordinators, Owners and Various Assistant Coaches. Obviously, you don't need to see or meet the person whose mind you are reading.
-Once you've read Belichicks or McDaniels mind, you are allowed to state your readings as indisputable facts in your posts, which they are. Don't let the Homers deny you your ability to read minds.
-Negative Nancies are also granted the semi-supernatural ability to Know Everything. This power works especially well for things that happen behind closed doors and in the locker room. Granted, this is very similar to the Mind Reading ability, but in actuality, its kind of different too.

I may be slightly biased in how I've presented these but please see Rule #2.

:D
Two months ago CNN aired a documentary of Jim Jones and Jones town. There, the REAL Kool-Aid was drunk. Because I watched it, does that make me a homer?

Yeah. I forgot to mention that one. Ususally links are presented in blue or cyan. That seems to be the industry-wide standard.

Are you Jim Boeheim?

Just dislike everything deus says and you will be fine.....

Ivan - Hate to say it, but Deus has been right many a time. Just as you have been.

i've noticed that this place crashes when the pats lose.

Yeah, specifically on game days. I don't know if it's coincidence but recently I've been getting the Error 522 messages right when something bad happens to us. I'll chalk it up to the trolls from other teams logging on trying to rub it in. There seems to be a lot more on site lately. lol

  1. When someone disagrees with you, but doesn't enter why, as no post is required to disagree.

I think most of the time, people are vocal about why. But honestly, some posts don't deserve the time or energy. Like those calling for keeping Cassel over Brady. I don't owe anyone an explanation when they go full ******.

I think Ian might have it under control now, but I do think a single account shouldn't have the ability to ding/damage another poster's rating multiple times in a short period.

1 negative rating per account per x hours.

Also, maybe new posters negative ratings don't count at all until they have a certain amount of Positive ratings/feedback or post count.

I like this idea. Also, this place is really like any other community. Everyone is generally pretty cool to eachother with the exception of a few minges who like to act mingey. The one thing I would change is enabling the passive aggressive negging that happens here with people throwing out arbitrary disagrees and dislikes. I think it's not that the rating annoys people as much as it is the concept of some neckbeard expressing their disapproval through a mouse click.

There's a lot of opportunity for misinterpretation. If I "dislike" a post that says, "Edelman won't be ready for the first playoff game" what message do I intend to deliver? I can see four options:
  1. I don't like the poster for saying this.
  2. That I think the comment is destructive or distracting to the thread conversation.
  3. That I do think Edelman will be ready for the first game. (The poster is wrong.)
  4. That I am disappointed that he won't be ready. (Whether I agree or disagree is not at issue.)
Which of those messages did I intend to convey? And, regardless of my intent, which did the poster interpret as my intent?

Why would anyone care about dislikes?

I don't know. And in a way, I don't care. They're internet points. 100 likes + $7 gets you a coffee at Starbucks.

Although I'd hope people would use disagree for option 3. But as for the rest, I have no idea why some posters do the things they do. Experienced psychiatrists can't explain half this ****ing ****.

But if I see **** like, "WE SHOULD DO THIS THING THAT THE (INSERT JETS/LIONS/BROWNS) DID WHICH IS AWESOME!!!11," then it gets a dislike, no explanation necessary.

If I really disagree and there's a thoughtful reason for it, I won't bother with the icons, I'll just reply. But if I don't, it's not the end of the world one way or another.

If it's really a big deal to you, just go through their entire post history and dislike everything back as revenge...I'm just kidding Ian! Seriously guys, don't do that. Bad bad bad.

One of the forums I follow has a 'core beliefs' thread that summarizes the tribal history for newbies...

#1a: Everyone here is a member of the Jets Suck Group. There is total agreement here that the Jets Suck.

#2 Once in a group, you are contractually obligated to only use the most insulting and exaggerated rhetoric when describing the thoughts and/or actions of the other group. (Duh)
Doubly true when posting to the annual Jets Suck Threads.

If you become a Negative Nancy,
Ok, what's the difference between a Negative Nancy and a Chicken Little?

The main thing they have in common is they listen too much to Boston Sports Talk Radio and that they wear adult diapers (or they damn well aught too, ewww!).

i've noticed that this place crashes when the pats lose.
Alcohol may be involved...

I'm a simple man, for crying out loud. Do I really need to know what color "cyan" is? ;)

Oh yeah, welcome to the forum. Good to have you aboard!!!
