Welcome SLGDEV! I believe those categories are based on how many posts the user has made on this board. Someone like you who just joined is labelled "On the Roster" because you don't have a lot of activity.

It's supposed to be a fun classification but I agree with Tony2046, nobody really pays any attention to them.
I have just over 100 posts, so I'm a "practice squad player." :) However if I keep posting (and I will 'cause I LOVE this forum), I'll gain the next designation which is probably a 3rd string or backup role of some kind.

^ yeah same here. trying to work my way up

I officially joined here sometime after the Patriots.com forum went dead, lurked for the longest time.

Love it here, we have a great group of posters.

Welcome to the board, you will like it here!

Board Rules (the Unwritten)
#1 Membership in one of the two board Groups is mandatory. You will become a Homer or a Negative Nancy™ even if we have to kidnap and brainwash you to get you to do it.
#2 Once in a group, you are contractually obligated to only use the most insulting and exaggerated rhetoric when describing the thoughts and/or actions of the other group. (Duh)
#3 When someone in the opposing group says something that doesnt comply with #2 you MUST none-the-less act like they've personally insulted you, which of course they have.

About some of the groups.
- Homers are incapable of thinking on their own, let alone managing anything approaching critical thinking
- You are a Homer if you have ever used the words "Lets wait and see" or used any combination of other words with similar idiomatic meaning.
- You immediately become a Homer if you have ever used the words "In" or "Belichick" or "I" or "Trust". Doesn't matter if you used them in the same sentence or not, just that you have ever used them at some point in your life.
-You irrevocably become a Homer if you ever, ever disagree with any of the founding Negative Nancies. Just. Dont. Do. It.
- If you become a Negative Nancy, you are immediately granted Belichick and McDaniel mind reading powers. These supernatural powers also extends to Coordinators, Owners and Various Assistant Coaches. Obviously, you don't need to see or meet the person whose mind you are reading.
-Once you've read Belichicks or McDaniels mind, you are allowed to state your readings as indisputable facts in your posts, which they are. Don't let the Homers deny you your ability to read minds.
-Negative Nancies are also granted the semi-supernatural ability to Know Everything. This power works especially well for things that happen behind closed doors and in the locker room. Granted, this is very similar to the Mind Reading ability, but in actuality, its kind of different too.

I may be slightly biased in how I've presented these but please see Rule #2.

:D

Not really. That only works for a specific post. I was talking about a global situation where you can see the grand total breakdown for the cumulative numbers under your avatar. Thanks, though, for telling me about this one aspect.

BTW, I have seen posts where there are two quote boxes. For example, A posts something. B replies so you see the quote box with A's stuff. Then C quotes B's post. When I do it as C, I only see in the quote box what B wrote. In other posts I have seen both A's and B's stuff in quote boxes.

That is the multiquote system Ian added:

If you hit "+Quote" on the multiple messages and then work your reply in the edit box you can Quote more than 1.

Using the "reply" button you only get that post without any embedded previous posts.

You can do both of above manually too of course.

While we are offering software suggestions, I'd prefer if links were easily distinguishable from text. Currently you have to hover over text to see if it is a link or not.

I know. It is just being new here I (a) am unfamiliar with the different personalities and (b) wanted to make clear who I am.

In that case, you might benefit from starting a post with an indication that you know it was humor, prior to the serious response. For every single person who bothers to give you the "lighten up" type of feedback, there are 99 who thought the same way but didn't lift a finger. Having a sense of humor, particularly with some ability at self-depreciation, is highly valued here.

You left out JETS FAN! which is my personal favorite reply.

Yeah. I forgot to mention that one. Ususally links are presented in blue or cyan. That seems to be the industry-wide standard.

That is such a Bull Sh*t representation of a Homer. :D

You're replying to your own account, man. I think you meant to log out and login to your Deus account, fyi.

You guys hoping to move into new poster rating dealies crack me up.

When replying to a post this is what matters to me:

1) What the person is saying
2) See above

This is what doesn't matter:
1) Poster rating
2) Post count
3) Avatar
4) Sig
5) What you said in another thread that pissed me off
6) How long you've been here
7) Your gender
8) Your political affiliation
9) Whether or not you will have sex with me.

Being a newcomer and having been here now for a couple of weeks I have some comments.
This forum has many nice features that I find lacking in Boston.com forum. Among them are:
  1. Requiring validation before one can become a poster. That means that a banned poster stays banned.
  2. Links back to the list at the bottom of the page, so that one does not have to scroll back up.
  3. The addition of likes, etc. so that you don't have to post just to agree.
  4. The massive membership which translates into considerable activity.
Minor dislikes:
  1. When someone disagrees with you, but doesn't enter why, as no post is required to disagree.
  2. The massive membership which makes the size of each thread massive and so becomes harder to follow.
I still don't understand the ratings or poster ranking system.
Overall comment: I like this forum.

the only thing you need to know as a former boston.com forums poster is that there is no rusty here, and if he is here, i've already ignored him.

I used to have a chart that showed the progression. I'll have to be sure to add that back in
I was curious about that, I just reached 5,000 and was unsure if that changed my progression or not. I'd appreciate it if you did!

I post to both.
