Being a newcomer and having been here now for a couple of weeks I have some comments.
This forum has many nice features that I find lacking in Boston.com forum. Among them are:
  1. Requiring validation before one can become a poster. That means that a banned poster stays banned.
  2. Links back to the list at the bottom of the page, so that one does not have to scroll back up.
  3. The addition of likes, etc. so that you don't have to post just to agree.
  4. The massive membership which translates into considerable activity.
Minor dislikes:
  1. When someone disagrees with you, but doesn't enter why, as no post is required to disagree.
  2. The massive membership which makes the size of each thread massive and so becomes harder to follow.
I still don't understand the ratings or poster ranking system.
Overall comment: I like this forum.

so ya basically both like and dislike 2 different features

you will fit in just fine here

No, just one. I like the agree without a post, but have a minor problem with the disagree without a post.
Those two are different. Yes, though, the massive membership is both like and dislike. That is why I worded it the way I did.

It is like "The good news is that although they had massive injuries, the Pats have a bye". "The bad news is that the Pats have massive injuries, even though they have a bye".

The size of the thread is massive only because you haven't invoked the ignore tool :)

I don't ignore people simply because they disagree with me. I use the ignore tool on posters that are insulting of other posters or ones that I see are just trolls. On Boston.com I am one of the heaviest users of the ignore tool. Anyway, give me time. I have only been here a couple of weeks, for Pete's sake.

Green (1st number) = Likes/useful/funny = +1
Black (middle) = Disagree (red X) no value
Red (Last) = Dislike = -1

I'm waiting in eager anticipation for patfanken's comments on the comments.

Thanks for the thread!

It's a one-week season on patsfans! Get with the program. :)

Hey, yippee, I got my first "dislike". I wonder from whom (not really wondering). "Whatever".

What I meant by rankings it that I see things like "Rookie", "On the Roster", "Pro bowl player" and I don't know what they mean.

Good idea for a thread. I've been here a while, so it's nice to get a fresh perspective.

You know what, I think I'll begin reviews and rankings of various posters who either please or displease me. I think that will go over well.

Oh, I don't know about that and I'm not sure if anyone pays attention to that.

The only rating I think anyone pays attention to is one that is given to a specific post regarding a specific subject rather than overall ratings etc...

You move up the ranking chain based on how many posts you make. I forget what milestone you have to reach to move up, but you will be identified as a rookie until you get there. If you want to be a Patsfans Supporter like me, that means you should donate to Ian to help defray the costs of running the site (it also removes ads from your screen, which I like). If you really like the forum, please consider donating.

Edit - correction, I see you are already "on the roster."

Welcome SLGDEV! I believe those categories are based on how many posts the user has made on this board. Someone like you who just joined is labelled "On the Roster" because you don't have a lot of activity.

It's supposed to be a fun classification but I agree with Tony2046, nobody really pays any attention to them.

The best thing about this forum, which was evident throughout the deflated offseason, is the value of the contributions from some incredibly knowledgable members.

I think it's only $18 buck for a year.

So for about the cost of two weeks worth D&D coffees or one cup of Starbucks Mochacholito Coolata, you too could be a member.
