How is Waluigi (or his subsequent aliases) these days?

The Boston.com admins are as incompetent as the Globe's delivery service. :D

Welcome aboard!

I only do the Pats forum there. It is not the admins. It is the software. Anyone can create a new account and can immediately post. So, Rusty who is "permanently" banned, can create 5-10 new accounts a day, immediately post, only to have the mods remove the thread or post as soon as they get to it. Now if they had a system like here, where a validation is required - and then a moderator's OK - that would greatly improve the situation. I assume that a record is kept of which email addresses are banned as well. That means such a person would not only have to create a new account each time, he would have to create a new email as well well. So, it is their software that is to blame. As far as delivery service, well, since I live in Florida -- no comment.

This forum has many nice features that I find lacking in Boston.com forum. Among them are:
  1. Requiring validation before one can become a poster. That means that a banned poster stays banned.
  2. Links back to the list at the bottom of the page, so that one does not have to scroll back up.
  3. The addition of likes, etc. so that you don't have to post just to agree.
  4. The massive membership which translates into considerable activity.
Minor dislikes:
  1. When someone disagrees with you, but doesn't enter why, as no post is required to disagree.
  2. The massive membership which makes the size of each thread massive and so becomes harder to follow.
I still don't understand the ratings or poster ranking system.
Overall comment: I like this forum.

Some of all this will be a little clearer after the season as I'm planning on doing a layout changeover and once that's done, I'll be putting together tutorial videos that walk you through different aspects of things. I have a better handle on creating videos now, so hopefully that will make it a little easier to do a lot of the day-to-day stuff that can be a little confusing.

I appreciate all the feedback and the fact you took some time early on to reach out via PM as well. It's good to have you aboard, and any thoughts, suggestions, ideas, requests, etc. are always appreciated.

As a side note, many of you who read the content or surf the site might have noticed this season you can now see when you're logged in, with your alerts, etc. By next season there will be a lot more interactive stuff incorporated into the site that I'm working on and you'll have a single sign-in via your account here to utilize all of it. But I'll get into that more as it begins to come together in the coming months.

For now, it's all about Cincinnati/Houston/Kansas City

Good idea for a thread. I've been here a while, so it's nice to get a fresh perspective.

You know what, I think I'll begin reviews and rankings of various posters who either please or displease me. I think that will go over well.
Kinda like those "hot or not" lists I used to make in elementary school back when I worked there as a janitor

Green (1st number) = Likes/useful/funny = +1
Black (middle) = Disagree (red X) no value
Red (Last) = Dislike = -1

Though remember that literally nothing depends on your rating. You do not gain or lose forum privileges based on rating or anything like that.

You move up the ranking chain based on how many posts you make. I forget what milestone you have to reach to move up, but you will be identified as a rookie until you get there. If you want to be a Patsfans Supporter like me, that means you should donate to Ian to help defray the costs of running the site (it also removes ads from your screen, which I like). If you really like the forum, please consider donating.

Edit - correction, I see you are already "on the roster."
i always wondered about that. i have more posts than SLGDEV, yet he's on the roster and i'm still a rookie!?!

edit: never mind, i didn't even realize i'm on the practice squad!

I used to have a chart that showed the progression. I'll have to be sure to add that back in

Here are suggestions for the next round of software:
  1. Allow a user to click somewhere to see who gave him likes, dislikes, etc.
  2. Allow that list to be sortable by the user by category as to person or thread. Creating a sortable table on a web page is not that difficult. The list should appear in a different tab/page
  3. Allow the user to allow or disallow (default) other posters to view that list
  4. Have conversations appear in a separate tab/page. The current way requires going back two times to get where you were before.

You can already do 1. Look next to the 'likes' you've gotten on a specific post, and you'll see the word 'list'. Click it, and build your list of enemies. LOL

1 - already exists
2 - the database lovers forum is over there
3 - see number 2
4 - not true

I don't build a list of enemies. If I find someone obnoxious or insulting to either me or another poster, I put that person on ignore. As for disagreeing, that is what makes it a forum rather than a me-too board. IOW, not a reason to be an "enemy" or to be put on ignore.

when i want to view a thread, i always do right-click and "open link in new tab". i do that in general when i click on any link, not just this forum.

my wife does the "left click on link, click on back button to return" routine and it drives me nuts when she's trying to show me something on the web!

Good grief... it was a joke...

Not really. That only works for a specific post. I was talking about a global situation where you can see the grand total breakdown for the cumulative numbers under your avatar. Thanks, though, for telling me about this one aspect.

BTW, I have seen posts where there are two quote boxes. For example, A posts something. B replies so you see the quote box with A's stuff. Then C quotes B's post. When I do it as C, I only see in the quote box what B wrote. In other posts I have seen both A's and B's stuff in quote boxes.

IMO, the tech features are secondary to the site's good discussion, polite posters and excellent moderation.

I know. It is just being new here I (a) am unfamiliar with the different personalities and (b) wanted to make clear who I am.

I'm waiting in eager anticipation for patfanken's comments on the comments.

I was thinking of Ken during the Miami game. The long pass down the middle to LeFell that was broken up reminded me of something he said in one of his posts. I've been waiting to see him here.

Welcome aboard SLGDEV. You're going to like it here a lot. It's so good here that I plan on staying even after I dump the NYJFL when Brady retires.
