Leonard Hankerson waived

I don't think that is correct. If he clears waivers they can sign him for whatever they can get Hankerson to agree to.

In the meantime, I think activating Harper for this Sunday's game makes sense.

While it didn't matter in this case, you're correct. Once a player clears waivers, his old contract no longer exists.

Dola had a huge game against the Jets the first time around, if he can't play and with possibly LaFell out I can't see how the Pats win this game....

Uhhh...TFB?

Where you been the last 15 years?

(ETA: The really effed up thing is that you are stating this in a thread about waiving a WR who never even saw the field. Does waiving a guy who, literally, had zero impact on any Patriots game this year affect your thinking about the outcome of the upcoming game? Belichick getting a hangnail would have a more meaningful effect on the Jets game than waiving Leonard Hankerson.)

Just someone else that was marginal to the game and Brady didn't trust throwing to. Not the first and definitely not the last reclamation project that didn't work out.

I am thinking that Patriots determined that Leonard Hankerson needs more time to learn the offense and therefore they want place him on practice squad. They also to want to evaluate other players that may be ready to help now e.g Montee Ball , DeAndre Carter, Brock Vareen.

Sucks. Another X receiver bites the dust in this complicated offense.

Reports are that Hankerson will be re-signed on Monday if another team doesn't claim him off waivers.

Not practice squad eligible. Has at least 3 accrued seasons

The alternative was not to claim Troy Hill, who was waived on Christmas Day.
One had nothing to do with the other.. Asante Cleveland was waived to claim Hill.

Lol, TFB can't score all the points needed to win a game. I posted this on here because I have an opinion. I felt that maybe Hankerson would be another weapon for Brady. I just watched the first game against the Jets this morning and that game was much closer than the score. The Jets had 6 more minutes in TOP. Pats couldn't run the ball (didn't even try), Brady had 99% of the running yards and a TD. Edelman was taken out by the Jets. Gronk and Dola had 55% of the receiving yards and a TD each. Hightower had 10 tackles and a recovered fumble. Pats stopped the Jets run game. Marshall dropped a TD catch in the end zone (In all fairness that's the game Pats receivers dropped 10 passes).

Now here we are with possibly Dola, Hightower, McCourty, and LaFell out with injuries or at least not close to being healthy. That leaves possibly Gronk, White, and Martin as our weapons. The Jets will triple team Gronk to take him out. I said "I have to believe we pull it off somehow" but honestly I'm also a realistic person so I would not be at all surprised given the health of the team if we lose this very tough road game.

I have no problem with you or anyone else disagreeing with me on that.

I wouldn't go writing the obituary on Hankerson's Patriots career just yet.

The poster I quoted made a joke that at least this [Hankerson] release wasn't done on Christmas (and perhaps implying that Belichick is a bit cold with this kind of thing).

My point was that Belichick didn't release Cleveland on Christmas Day just for the fun of it. He had to release someone immediately if he wanted to claim Hill.

Was a corresponding move made?

Would be odd to cut him and bring in another skill player, especially after Hankerson got a few in-game reps last week.

"Hankerson will be waived by the Patriots on Saturday, a league source tells ProFootballTalk. Since Julian Edelman is doubtful to play on a foot injury, and Brandon LaFell (foot) and Danny Amendola (knee) are questionable to play, the Patriots likely will promote a wide receiver from their practice squad. Keshawn Martin is the lone fully healthy Patriots receiver on the active roster. The Patriots have wide receivers DeAndre Carter and Chris Harper on their practice squad. "

I was figuring that Harper will get promoted, and Hankerson could/might be brought back for next week. Time will tell.

You did say you thought the Pats would pull it out somehow, but you also said it was going to be a long afternoon. Usually that phrase means that not only will a team lose, but they will lose badly. I think it's probably that phrasing that made people scratch their heads a little.

I see, didn't realize that. I meant that it was going to be one of those games where you will be at the edge of your seat, screaming at the TV, etc. I absolutely do not expect a blowout from either side. I expect a 3 or 4 point game at most. My bad for using a poor choice of words. It's going to be a tough game but my hope is that Ghost wins it for us at the end.

I do kind of like the future potential of Hankerson. Hopefully he comes back on a 2 year minimum type deal next week.

In the meantime, maybe it's Harper Time pt. II?

There's a huge difference between saying that the Jets have a good shot to knock us off and (in your words) 'I can't see how that Pats win this game'. The first is acknowledging that the team on the other side is a good team and could exploit our weaknesses, the second is saying a 12-2 team (which has already been dealing with numerous injuries for the last two months) somehow has no shot to beat a 9-5 team who doesn't have a win against a team over 0.500 the entire season. The former is realistic, the latter is ridiculous.
