Former Patriots Guard Logan Mankins Mulling Retirement

Wouldn't be surprised if he came back, his family still lives here.

Love to see the Pats give him a halftime welcome. Regardless of results didn't he play a Super Bowl with a torn ACL?
Yes -2011. Actually I think he played the entire season with it. As I understand it, it was a partial tear which didn't require the full ACL replacement.

Mankins played hard here. He deserves some recognition.

Is his family still in NAttleboro? I thought he had a ranch in California.

At any rate. Despite his problems with his contract negotiations, Mankins was a true warrior on the field and for a time one of the top 3 OG's in the league. When he no longer played to the level of his contract he ran into the same issue most of our best players run into. BB isn't going to pay a premium for PAST performance.

As for next season, I have no sense of what kind of a year Mankins had with TB. From what I heard it was decent, but not spectacular. His value in the locker room was more important than what he did on the field. He'd be a great presence in the Pats locker room as well, with that very young interior OL, but I doubt he'd take the kind of pay cut it would take to make it happen.

Regardless, he eventually belongs in the Pats HOF. He was a great player for us for a long time.

I'm surprised that his family still lives here; he struck me as the type whose favorite memories of NE
would be seeing it in his pickup truck's rear-view mirror at the end of every season.
And I would be absolutely shocked if he ever returned to play here. His relationship with Bill didn't
exactly end very well.

Who cares.. Guy has been talking about this since he signed his last contract with the Patriots.

It really does seem that way, doesn't it?

Damn good player though.

He had some bad timing -- a rookie the year after the pats won their 2004 sb (the last of those 3), and then traded the year before pats won the latest superbowl

Yeah he did, ever since learning that I've been unable to summon up any disdain for the guy. I don't like how he's handled contract negotiations, but gotta respect him at a minimum.

If I counted correctly, the Patriots teams Mankins played on lost 36 regular season games over 9 seasons. I didn't figure out games lost due to injury or holdout.

The Bucs teams Mankins played on have lost 22 games over 2 seasons so far.

Mankins was one nasty SOB on the field. I remember one year the Patriot players were asked which teammate they would want to have with them in a street fight and Mankins won in a landslide

Apparently he could be a pain in the ass during contract negotiations but who can blame a guy for getting all he can get?

If he has anything left I'd be all for him coming back to the Patriots to finish his career

Tough, durable, dependable, consistent -- a perfect example of the kind of O linemen that was/is needed on the Patriots.
