He definitely does, because then he gets to go be the 'voice of Boston' in the national media. He sure did make the rounds after deflategate, confirming that as the sole objective person in the region the rest of us--including the other beat writers--are just psychotic homer assholes. He tells them what they want to hear, and since he's 'local' the national audience especially likes hearing it from him. In the wake of Deflategate he was suddenly on CNN in front of a national audience with Anderson Cooper, clearly he wants some more of that.
He's already burned every bridge in the region, so trolling for outside haters looking for validation is really all he's got, and that's what he constantly positions himself for. The problem: unless a big story breaks, there's no reason for any national outlet to bring him on. Morally bankrupt, sleazy solution: manufacture a scandal.
I'm firmly convinced that he tries to manufacture this crap purely for national exposure to further his own career.
