I've seen this story pop up on a couple of news sites. It's absurd and an insult to female referees. He treated her like any other ref which is what he should do.
Everyone knows that's every sexual predator's signature move: when the female unexpectedly comes right up into your personal space, you disengage, take a big step back and then gesture near them without touching them, then walk away. I mean that's a textbook molestation in all 50 states, right? What really happens: She gets really close to him and then Bill actually takes a step back so he can reestablish the distance he needs to show her the action he was being being critical about.
Again, the stills online are way off-base and I can't believe this is gaining steam in some areas, he doesn't even touch her:
Unfortunately Belichick accidentally left his life-sized NFL lineman mannequin at home this weekend to gesture upon, so he didn't have a whole lot of options. The still at the top of the article suceeds in making it look like BB is doing something semi bad against a ref. The video shows that nope, they just found the frame where he looks the angriest, and like he plans to lift her up or something.
"And Belichick should know better". What the crap? He should know better than to just show the ref what he sees the opponents do, that he believes is against the rule? Coaches do that all the time, to all refs, because it's much easier to just show what someone does wrong, instead of trying to explain it. Especially with the short time between plays.
Exactly. Just another example of the lopsided, "do whatever we want, when we want," ,BS we deal with every week. I've seen a few players taking their helmets off on the field. OBJ did it several times yesterday. No penalty. It was during the replacement ref era, specifically during the Patriots-Ravens game. Baltimore's game winning kick looked like it passed over the top of the goal post and was no good. The officials ruled it good and were then running off the field. Belichick caught up with one and grabbed his arm to get the official's attention to ask about the play. He was fined maybe $50k for that.
After that game and the fine, there was a lot of "You can't make contact with an official, no matter what." I'm pretty sure that was the year Baltimore won the SB. During that game, a Baltimore player shoved an official as the officials were breaking up a fight. No penalty for that and no fine from the league, either.
Just gotta say, this is America in 2015. It's simultaneously:
"We have a female official!!! Hooray, equality!!!!"
and
"Look at what Belichick did!! It's weird because she's a woman!!!"
You've stumbled onto one of the differences between waves of feminism! Equality of representation (a goal of first wave feminists) is different from true equality, which also recognizes differences on a spectrum of genders. The former is important but is not sufficient, and can even be regressive.
But there's really no story here. Nothing Belichick did was wrong, and the official did not react like he did anything wrong. They were close together because it's difficult to hear in a stadium of 60,000 screaming people, and he stepped back to mime what the player did.
And God forbid there should be something exclusively for men in this day and age. But I'm sure she was the most experienced and qualified among the pool of applicants when she got the job and it wasn't just the NFL grandstanding.
Why should there be anything exclusively for men in this day and age? If she can do the job, and it seems she can, what's the problem?
And let's not forget the ass..He's a better man than I am. I would have squeezed her tits together and made an obscene gesture by flicking my tongue out of my mouth as fast as possible whilst making intense eye contact with her.
