So, the blocked punt really has stuck in my craw. The reason being is that both Grissom and Fleming seemed to turn away from Maragos and ignore him totally and Ebner had moved to the other side to pick someone up.

So I decided to do a breakdown of the play to see if I could "decifer" The Pats "line" from left to right was Bolden (38), Fleming (53), Grissom (92), Cardona (49), Freeny (55), Bostic (58), Wilson (27) with Ebner(43) lined up as the Personal Protector.

EDIT: Added the numbers of the Pats players who were on the line for the punting team.

Ed Reynolds (#30) and Najee Goode (53) were opposite Bolden and Fleming, respectively, but shaded left. Brian Branam (#56) was opposite Grissom, but shaded to Grissom's right. Trey Burton (#47) was opposite Freeny, but shaded to Freeny's right. Seiji Ajirotutu (#16) was opposite Bostic, but shaded right. Jaylen Watkins (#37) is shaded to Wilson's right. Back two yards from the line are Maragos (#42) behind Braman and Kenjon Barner (#34) behind Burton.

At the snap, the following happens.
1) Ajirotutu stunts outside, forcing Bostic to attempt to pick up Watkins. Bostic is only able to chip Watkins and not very effectively. Ajirotutu is now Wilson's man .
2) Braman goes for the Left "A" gap and is picked up by Cardona AND Grissom, with Grissom turning his back to the left side "B" gap.
3) Burton also goes for the right "A" Gap, forcing Freeny behind Cardona and opening a hole for Barner.
4) Goode allows Reynolds to cut underneath him and engage Bolden. Goode, for all intents and purposes, stunts to the outside, though he's doing it almost casually. This seems to confuse Fleming some as he tries to go around Bolden/Reynolds instead of picking up Reynolds and allowing Bolden to shift to Goode.
5) Because of the hole in the right side "B" gap that opened up for Barner, Ebner moves over and picks him up.
6) This allows Maragos in unimpeded through the left side "B" gap to Allen for the block.

I'm not sure if it was bad situational awareness by Grissom, poor coaching by Judge or a bad blocking call by Ebner (Ebner makes the line calls on the punt team). That being said, my review seems to show that Grissom seems to be the one who took himself out of position to not be able to disengage from Braman and pick-up Maragos. I'd love to hear from someone like PFK on this..

I would like to hear from Unoriginal on this matter.

From that picture, you can't tell whether or not Fleming is engaged with Ed Reynolds at that point. Sorry Mark Daniels. If you watch the replay, Bolden actually peels off to pick up Goode, but then starts upfield, not realizing the punt has been blocked. Bostic and Wilson had a similar issue on the opposite side..

Except that Ninkovich wasn't on the field at the time..

my bad, looking at it again it was number 53 or 55 who missd their assignment.

Read my breakdown.
#55 - Freeny is on the right side of the line.
#53 - Fleming was on his assignment, Goode. Goode "stunted" outside, letting Reynolds engage Bolden. Fleming engaged Reynold and Bolden pulled off to engage Goode, but then went upfield (assuming he heard the sound of the punt).

Pretty sure that Grissom is the one who missed his assignment. Waiting to hear from Unoriginal or PFK

Well, I don't know the formation or the blocking assignments. But I do know that an Eagles player blocked a Pats punt last year in preseason in pretty much the same way.

No excuses. Ninko has to be held responsible. Should have used his good luck and some voodoo magic to influence the play.
