Patriots Work Out Two Veteran Tight Ends, Including Bear Pascoe

The New England Patriots worked out veteran tight ends Steve Maneri and Bear Pascoe on Friday, according to a source. Maneri has played tight end and offensive line in the NFL after going undrafted out of Temple in 2010. He spent part of the 2010 season on the Patriots’ practice squad and active roster.

He also was with the Patriots in training camp in 2014 then signed to their active roster in December. He was waived on Jan. 17. Maneri spent part of training camp this summer with the New York Jets. The 6-foot-7, 280-pounder has six career receptions for 52 yards. He’s also spent time with the Houston Texans, Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The team needs to work out CBs & OLmen ahead of TEs & Safeties, our 2 deepest positions.

Speaking of the practice squad and Bills affection for safeties. Why in the world not give Cassius Sendish a try out or shot.
I still can't comprehend why he isn't at least on a NFL practice squad???????

For those of you who don't know about me and Manx's favorite sleeper pick in this past years draft, here you go.

Plan and simple, this kids instincts are not teachable!

ps. Screw Tavon Wilson!

This is a feckin joke.

Not only do we have TWICE as many Safeties as we need, but besides McCourty they mostly suck too.

Thank the God of Ganja for Tom F Brady.
Most of the safeties are about as much safeties as Slater is a WR, they are used for special teams.

I completely disagree that they mostly suck. Chung has been good the last two years when he's used in the more box and tight coverage role. Harmon is a very competent backup deep safety. He allows us to move Dmac around and have him in coverage on tight ends and other players when we want, without having to be too worried that the FS on that play will **** the bed.

as far as I'm aware, he's not on any roster. Don't know what the issue was - to my mind, he was threat deal. It's not as though he wasn't athletic either. Had legitimate NFL athleticism. Only thing I can think of is that at 5-11 and 193lbs, he's smaller than what is becoming the norm at the position.

This.

I love our safeties. I really don't understand why this board craps on them.

The CBs are average.

I remember talking about this pre-draft. When you look at him and his frame, it can clearly add some weight. He was a juco transfer and attended Kansas. Im fairly sure with a year of proper NFL dieting and weight lifting, he could rack on another 10-15 lbs. For heavens sake, he only pushed 225 8 times. Clearly he has room to get stronger and gain weight. I think his main issue is his top end speed and his 4.6 40 pro day results. However his game tape tells a different story in my opinion.

He defiantly isn't a track star, which you can clearly see in his sprint release form.

In this video, you can see his horrible sprinting technique, and how long it takes for him to get out of his release.

In this one, you can see the limitations on his top end speed.

I think he probably runs closer to a mid 4.4 in terms of game speed.
Nothing his incredible instincts can't make up for.

This board craps on everything because Darrelle Revis isn't here. And because Rodney Harrison and Lawyer Milloy aren't playing safety. And we don't win every game 56-0, and hold the other team to 3 and out on every single drive.

Also GOATkowski isn't Vinatieri, even though we boo him too.

When fans across the country talk about spoiled fans, that's the crap they're talking about.

We play 3 safeties on defense, primarily, and we do that because all three of them are good. If they sucked, they wouldn't play.

Yep. It's not a stretch to say that Harmon would start for 3/4 of the teams on the league.

actually I think his main problem might be that, for whatever reason, he's not considered a special teamer. That would certainly explain why he's not on an NFL roster because he had everything else needed.

This board doesn't crap on the safeties. Most people are ok with the safeties, realizing that BB has found roles for them that work, even if the players are limited. That shouldn't, and doesn't, stop people from wishing the safeties (outside of McCourty) were more versatile, or better overall.

It's the CBs that the board craps on, and rightfully so.

We have a different view

There are countless posts of the irrational saying the secondary sucks.

Some posters fail to seperate the two roles.

I've yet to see a single poster here who cannot differentiate between safeties and corners, and the threads make it clear that most people have major issues with the corners, while few have anything even approaching that level of consternation about the safeties.

I wont be happy until everyone on the practice squad is a safety

I don't need to. I read pretty much every thread here. You're the one doing the conflating here.
So do I. You are missing posts

Huh...so when you talk about none of the safeties other than McCourty being worthy of starting in the NFL, and that safety is a significant "issue" on the roster, that means you're ok with the safeties? Maybe it's just a matter of differing standards.
