Here we go:
  • Good to see the Pats play a sloppy mistake filled game and still win by double digits minus a garbage time field goal. The Pats left probably 100 yards and possibly 10-14 points on the field with all the drops.
  • Major props to the o-line. They struggled a bit early, but they had three starters out (if you factor Vollmer moving from RT to LT) and they handled the Jets' d-line very well. I know they had extra blockers quite a bit, but that is a tough assignment.
  • That said, I don't get how the Jets have three high first round picks on their d-line (Richardson, Wilkerson, and Williams) who all are pretty good yet they cannot pressure the QB without blitzing. How does that happen?
  • Logan Ryan had his third solid game in a row. I know he got killed in the game thread for giving up one big play to Marshall, but he drew Marshall all game and handed Marshall his worst game of the season. After week one, Marshall has gotten 100 plus yards a game in every game. And he had a TD in all but one game before today. Ryan held him to 4 catches for 67 yards and no TD. Marshall was a non-factor in this game. Yes, Ryan got over the top help, but it was a solid performance none the less.
  • On the other side, I think Butler had his worst game of the season drawing Decker. Kinda surprised they flipped him and Ryan especially since Ryan did well vs. Decker last year. The rest of the second left a lot to be desired too.
  • Speaking of CBs, I am convinced Revis was a waste of money at the price the Jets are paying for him. He is slow now for some reason. He was a step behind on a lot of plays. If not for a couple of drops, it would have stood out more. He is still a very good CB, but I don't think he is elite or a CB a QB needs to avoid. This is not the first game I noticed this and some of his gift INTs have masked that. Don't take this as I am saying he is no good, but I would rather have Talib the way he is playing this year than Revis.
  • I will give LaFell a few more games to get back in football shape, but the drops are disconcerting especially since that was his knock in Carolina. I am hoping today was the aberration and not last season.
  • I don't know what Belichick does to get opposing coaches to coach stupid, but I still don't get why Bowles sat on his timeouts on the Patriots last drive and why he never even tried to throw deep on either of the two drives after the Pats got to 30 points. I have been impressed with Bowles up until that point this year, but the final few minutes of the game were very Herm Edwards/Eric Mangini/Rex Ryan like. Maybe it is a job requirement for Jets coaches to screw up the final minutes of close games.
  • Wasn't a fan that the Pats all but abandoned the run. Sure the odds the Pats were going to have a good day running the ball was negligible, but the fact that the Jets never feared the run at all allowed them to pin their ears back and stifle the offense early. It was only so long that they could contain Brady and the offense, but a better offense could have put the game out of reach.
  • Right now Amendola is the Pats' best WR. Maybe not when Edelman is on, but he is off right now. Too many drops. Amendola is money every time Brady throws to him though. His leaping catch was amazing. He is the Welker replacement that the Pats were hoping they were getting when they first signed him.

Agree about Amendola being their best WR at the moment. He has been fantastic. He had a great game against the Jets last year too.

Also, thought Ninkovich had a great game. It seems like he has some good games against Fitzpatrick if my memory is correct.

Agree with pretty much everything you wrote. Once again you provide great insight into the game. One minor item to note is that though Ryan did play okay, he was saved by two uncharacteristic drops by Marshall. I know Marshall did grab and throw Ryan to the ground (no call) but he should have caught that TD.

I was super impressed by Brady buying time in the pocket and using his legs to extend plays. Great overall effort by the team.

The only thing that needs fixed is the porous third down defense.

They really did gameplan for Kirk Cousins.

I don't blame Ryan for getting burned when Marshall commits blatant OPI on him on that dropped TD. But Marshall had one 29 yard play and you take that away and he had three catches for 38 yards with only one catch for 12 yards in the first half. And again, this was the worst game for Marshall all season.

Disagree about revis. Still think he's the best corner in the league. I think we need another corner with size that can play man coverage

Nah! He was average today. Brady committed quite a few passes on him today. He was covering LaFell on a couple of LaFell's drops.

The Pats need a nickelback and more depth, but Butler and Ryan have been solid thus far this season.

You would disagree because you are a Jets fan posting from NYC.

That is true. I am just saying that no flag was thrown, so that would have been a TD. Look I like Ryan, and he definitely played better than Butler, but I just go by the fact that I don't always feel great with him back there. He is a solid #2 or #3 corner, but I don't have high expectations when he faces a player of Marshall's caliber.

Because i can't be objective? Lol. Dude i wish we had burned him in this game but he can still cover wrs. He got burned on one play that edelman dropped the football

Personally, I would have rather had Butler on Marshall with over the top help and let Ryan go on Decker. Ryan has played Decker well in the past.

Lafell also had revis beat for a big gain early but dropped it. Not sure if revis was expecting inside help but there was a lot of separation I think the ball was behind lafell and he still should have caught it.

Also wwhen Edelman dropped a should be td was it revis he beat?

I agree completely.

as a back up. They don't need a starter can do that. Both Butler and Ryan can play man. They need a bigger guy on occasions where they are facing really tall WRs, but that isn't every week.

U really trust ryan. Maybe he can do the job. We will see

Considering tha Lafell did a better job stopping our offense than the Jets, I am quite pleased with the result. Their coach also looks pretty decent and I look forward to good games in the future.

He has been pretty solid this year. People are hating on him based on reputation more than what he has done on the field. Since he has taken over the starting role, he hasn't been a liability and in the last three games he has been solid. And he has been drawing opposing teams' #1 WR a decent amount too.

And who are they going to get who any better than he is?

Bowles can't control himself with the blitzing. Last year when his Cards faced the Seahawks (the 2nd time), his undisciplined blitzes allowed Wilson to run wild while their man coverage was turned around. The more it blew up in his face, the more he kept at it.

This may be why he may never be able to stop Brady and the Pats' offense. You blitz Brady and he will eat you apart. He would have easily had 400 plus yards passing today if not for the drops.
