Here we go:
- Good to see the Pats play a sloppy mistake filled game and still win by double digits minus a garbage time field goal. The Pats left probably 100 yards and possibly 10-14 points on the field with all the drops.
- Major props to the o-line. They struggled a bit early, but they had three starters out (if you factor Vollmer moving from RT to LT) and they handled the Jets' d-line very well. I know they had extra blockers quite a bit, but that is a tough assignment.
- That said, I don't get how the Jets have three high first round picks on their d-line (Richardson, Wilkerson, and Williams) who all are pretty good yet they cannot pressure the QB without blitzing. How does that happen?
- Logan Ryan had his third solid game in a row. I know he got killed in the game thread for giving up one big play to Marshall, but he drew Marshall all game and handed Marshall his worst game of the season. After week one, Marshall has gotten 100 plus yards a game in every game. And he had a TD in all but one game before today. Ryan held him to 4 catches for 67 yards and no TD. Marshall was a non-factor in this game. Yes, Ryan got over the top help, but it was a solid performance none the less.
- On the other side, I think Butler had his worst game of the season drawing Decker. Kinda surprised they flipped him and Ryan especially since Ryan did well vs. Decker last year. The rest of the second left a lot to be desired too.
- Speaking of CBs, I am convinced Revis was a waste of money at the price the Jets are paying for him. He is slow now for some reason. He was a step behind on a lot of plays. If not for a couple of drops, it would have stood out more. He is still a very good CB, but I don't think he is elite or a CB a QB needs to avoid. This is not the first game I noticed this and some of his gift INTs have masked that. Don't take this as I am saying he is no good, but I would rather have Talib the way he is playing this year than Revis.
- I will give LaFell a few more games to get back in football shape, but the drops are disconcerting especially since that was his knock in Carolina. I am hoping today was the aberration and not last season.
- I don't know what Belichick does to get opposing coaches to coach stupid, but I still don't get why Bowles sat on his timeouts on the Patriots last drive and why he never even tried to throw deep on either of the two drives after the Pats got to 30 points. I have been impressed with Bowles up until that point this year, but the final few minutes of the game were very Herm Edwards/Eric Mangini/Rex Ryan like. Maybe it is a job requirement for Jets coaches to screw up the final minutes of close games.
- Wasn't a fan that the Pats all but abandoned the run. Sure the odds the Pats were going to have a good day running the ball was negligible, but the fact that the Jets never feared the run at all allowed them to pin their ears back and stifle the offense early. It was only so long that they could contain Brady and the offense, but a better offense could have put the game out of reach.
- Right now Amendola is the Pats' best WR. Maybe not when Edelman is on, but he is off right now. Too many drops. Amendola is money every time Brady throws to him though. His leaping catch was amazing. He is the Welker replacement that the Pats were hoping they were getting when they first signed him.
