So as many of you might have seen over the past four seasons I've had a stats database on here where you can sort by down, etc. with all the numbers for each player and last year I even did the defense, which ended up being really cool because you could see who had the most third down tackles, passes defensed, etc.

All of those will be back this weekend after I get done rebuilding the pages for mobile but I wanted to start a thread asking for a list of stats you'd like to have on here that maybe I didn't think of.

The current categories have been (and will be):

Full Season Stats - (Passing, rushing, receiving) sortable by down, quarter, etc.
Passing chart (sortable showing completions to different zones)
Rushing chart (sortable showing right tackle, left tackle, etc)
Red Zone Passing/Receiving (Sortable)

Quarter-by-Quarter Passing (by week)
Quarter-by-Quarter Receiving (by Week & Player)
Quarter-by-Quarter Rushing (by Week & Player)

Receiving Plays by distance (Team totals week by week)
Receiving Plays by distance by Player (Week-by-Week)
Receiving Plays by distance (Full Player List)

Rushing Plays by distance (Team totals week by week - sortable)
Rushing Plays by distance by Player (Week-by-Week- sortable)
Rushing Plays by distance (Full Player List- sortable)

Complete Down-by-down totals:
(how many times they were in 3rd-and-1, with conversions, etc.)

Sortable Defensive table with tackles, sacks, passes defensed, interceptions, etc.

EDIT: Other Features we've had and will have:
Full Snaps list charted week-by-week for every player
Full totals and list of penalties for each player including which game they occurred in

NEW and also coming this season:
How many times they were in the shotgun, no huddle, etc.
Completion percentage by pass attempt distance, zone
Yards after the catch, etc.

That's what we've had in the past, but I wanted to find out what people here might like that maybe I've missed.

Offensive formations (2/1, 2/2, etc) by down and distance, and stats for each formation (yards).

Broken down by down/distance would be great (e.g., we go 2/2 formation 50% of the time when it is 3rd and short).

In 'Take your eye off the ball' this is one of the first things Kirwan goes over...I think chapter 2.

I think that should be a potential option and I have a good idea of how I might be able to implement that

Good stuff - keep them coming

Splits (filters) of all stats, by time remaining in game, points up/down.

Win expectancy and by current game state (score differential / time remaining).

Quick bump - thanks for the suggestions so far, keep them coming

Opposing fan misery index?

Subjective I know but it is basically 1/Score Differential x tears x time remaining in the game.

This is good stuff Ian. Bump.

Drive length, outcome (TD, FG, Punt, etc), length of drive and total time of drive. Also game state (time remaining / point dif) at start of drive. If, I'm making a wish list.

Ideally this should be also be done down to the smallest unit -play by play basis- with play type (pass, run, etc) thrown in with above data.

Would love defensive situational football stats- 3rd down and red zone, which after points and tos are the most important d stats. Yards=meaningless #'s

Even a simple version of this would be useful. Basically at least want to be able to tell if the game is pretty much over or not. Conceding 5-yd run after 5-yd run looks very different at the beginning of the game vs. towards the end of a game when up by a couple of scores.

3 and outs, dropped passes, runs/catches/throws for losses etc

You read my mind

Lots of great ideas here, most of these I think should be doable. Appreciate it, and again, keep them coming

While these would all be interesting, to me we would need to compare them to the 31 other teams to have any relevancy. Without that context we wouldn't know if those numbers were good, bad or average.

Not sure if Ian is up for that big of a task...

LOL, I completely agree with you and actually tried that a couple years ago, but unfortunately it's a 15-hour process to do them all each week and I only made it a few weeks before I ran out of gas with that. This is daunting enough for one team as it is

It really bugs me the league doesn't have more of the numbers that I put together available because I started it specifically for that reason. You can't see how many 3rd down receptions Edelman has and first downs (or Gronk for that matter) anywhere, or how many negative carries a player has on 3rd and one. Or what Brady's best quarter passing the football has been, etc. Nor can you see how many red zone tackles Jamie Collins has or who has the most passes defensed on 3rd down.

So I got mad and figured out a way to put it together so I'd at least have them but as jmt57 correctly points out, there isn't any context since you can't compare the numbers against other teams, which is why I initially started trying to log it for all of them a couple years ago, but it was just way too big of a task unfortunately since each game takes about an hour to log both teams and then another 30 minutes to double check it again for accuracy.

But at least we'll have them for the Patriots here and I compare the major numbers to the league splits to make sure the totals from data are accurate, and then it's just a matter of manipulating it from there
