Breaking News: Sometimes Players Get Hurt in Football Games

There’s an annoying thing that always seems to happen, including here, that I would like to see stop.

It goes like this…a player is hurt in a preseason game. Unless it’s a player that pretty much nobody has ever heard of (and even then, some will pipe up that they really loved him and he was going to be an important part of the team), the complaints will start right away: “why was he in there??...what was Belichick doing?? Why was he playing in this game/this half/this quarter/this PLAY when he got hurt??”

Ugh. Please stop.

Football is the ultimate team game, we all agree. And for there to be value to the preseason, the team has to play. Want to get a sense of your backup QB? How exactly are you going to do that if he doesn’t play with anyone? (Which is why the whole “he got hurt in the FOURTH QUARTER” thing is particularly dopey. The game is the game.)

Now, I think there are exceptions, and not just for the preseason, but for meaningless regular season games. I don’t think I’ve ever been happier than when Belichick sat Gronkowski down against Buffalo. On the flip side, I think Bill screwed up in the past playing Harrison and Welker at the end of the year. But I wouldn’t hesitate to say exactly that before the game. Was anyone saying, “Brandon Gibson better not be out there in the preseason!” But sure enough, you heard about how he shouldn’t have been playing after he got hurt.

Sometimes guys get hurt. It sucks. But let’s stop making it worse by complaining after the fact that the guy shouldn’t have been playing at all.

As far as injuries, the patriots have come out of the preseason very well.

I am NOT putting a jinx on the 4th game. My thought is that none of our best 50 players should be playing.

You seems forgetting cut down 75 happens before the last game. you can't play the last game with 25 ppl....

It has become more probable than not by reading this forum that it is that dastardly Bill Belichick fault that these poor players were stress beyond all possible limits and have been made to play in exhibition games.

It is therefore recommended that all preseason games and practices be played by stand ins that look and act as an actual player but do not get injured. These said stand ins will then transfer all experience they receive via an in-depth journal to the actual players. These players will then read these journals and absorb all knowledge contained there in. This reading session shall be televised and will here fore be called the 'regular' season!

These actions shall insure that all players remain healthy throughout the entire 'regular' season. Leaving the players involved healthy for the post season!

Yes, I would play the last game with 25 players. The "rosters" I list included 14 on offense, and 16 on defense. Add the 3 specialists and we have 23. Of course, many more are available in case of injuries.

So, feel free to ADD two more players. I suppose, we need a dime back and a 3rd RB.

We here in New England love to critique the coach and QB who have done more for the team than any coach /QB combo may have done in the last 15 yrs. Not even close. 6SB apperances, 4 wins, making something out of nothing, taking Jags to Championship games , but still some people always claim to know more than the coach. Spoilt fanbase.
