NE is arguably enjoying the most coaching stability they've experienced in some time. Despite retirements, there hasn't been a coaching HC from the BB coaching tree in a few years.

Many people seem to think Josh McD is just waiting in the wings to be the next HC from the current coaching staff. But I wonder how long it will be before Matt P gets some very serious offers. By all accounts he is brilliant, well respected by staff and players alike, and has been doing a very solid job.

BB seems to still have plenty in the tank despite being one of the elder statesmen of the HC fraternity and I would be surprised to see either JMcD or MP replace him as other offers should be out there.

It's early, but is there a strong possibility both main coordinators move on from Foxborough in less than a year from now ? My gut tells me Matt is the next to go despite Josh McD's experience.

Not sure, I think Josh leaves first. Matt Patricia gets all the blame when the defense stinks and BB the merits when it's good, so it's complicated. I think he is a low profile guy that is making a good money in a good environment, why change and risk going to a dysfunctional organization?

McDaniels is listed by ESPN as the number 1 coordinator in the league. he's my first choice to replace bill when he retires.

Do you believe Josh will be that patient ? I don't see BB's passion for the game dwindling any time soon...

BB is a lot more than just a head coach. When he leaves, the system will remain mostly intact. I believe Caserio is paid more than any GM out there (even though he doesn't hold the title). He will be "in charge" when BB leaves. I don't know who the HC will be.

Yeah, or else he wouldn't have come back.

HC and GM of a cornerstone franchise is tough to walk away from.

And I think if Patricia has another good year with that defense, teams will be calling next year.

I don't know. BB may still have passion for the game, but I doubt he has much patience for all this League drama and politics. If I were him, I think I might have had my fill of this crap (which is probably what Kensil et. al. are hoping for.)

I find it nearly impossible to believe that in some Patriots ownership realm that not one word was spoken about Josh taking over as HC and BB retaining GM. Even it was dismissed...the possibility had to be mentioned...IMO.

I have read in more than one article that Matt will not leave the Pats no matter what is offered elsewhere. Everyone is entitled to change their minds however.

How much is his day-to-day life affected by it?

I think the general Patriots organization has been leading the response -- a very mixed blessing, as things turn out, but it is what it is.

I tend to believe that the next HC may not have even presented himself as of yet, but that's just my opinion. There are always decent candidates in the college ranks as well, particularly when they have ties to BB (Urban Meyer, for example).

Many here tend to believe that JMcD is just waiting in the wings, but I think he's just waiting for the right HC opportunity, and not wanting to repeat the mistakes that he, Belichick, and even guys such as Mangini have made by jumping on the first choice.

Steven Belichick, because you know the Rats just can't help themselves.

Doubt he'd accept it though.

Thing with Partricia is that it's hard to tell just how much control he has over the defensive play calling and the planning. I know he calls the plays but as far as the flow of the game goes and making adjustment it's hard to say how involved BB is and I'd think Patricia would want to toot his own horn a bit in an interview. Bit of a gamble hiring him.

Caserio is signed from now to forever. The organization obviously views him very favourably. I am not as knowledgable on the other coaches on the staff - there might be a rising star on staff already who just needs seasoning and experience. If Caserio is indeed the "next boss" I'm ok w either Josh or Matt. But I truly believe that Bb has too many years left for those two NOT to get scooped up. But, as a poster mentioned, BB is surely getting fed up w how the League Office is running.

Caserio....respected for what he does...draft, player evaluation, scouting and the like...he's good at that. I think Josh or Matt would be more respected as HC.

if Brady is going to be playing for another 7-8 years...BB is going to be here at least that long

I have two thoughts on this.

1. BB may give up the HC position but still stay on as GM. Which would help maintain the system while the new HC gets the hang of things. Sort of an acclimation period.

2. If this deflategate BS winds up costing Roger and crew their jobs there might be a completely new regime in the NFL's front office which may include BB himself. hahaha

JK on the second thought.

Maybe not much but it's always something he has to prepare to answer/not answer and prepare the team for it as well. It certainly is affecting his QB.

How do you fight something that's totally made up? When will the next lie become news? It must be exhausting.
