The biggest Manning ballwasher at it again

I have to be the contrary guy here because no one else really wants to be. Hopefully you understand my real stance and i think you do.:D

Colts deserve to be #1 until after week number 1 is played.
Actually, I don't get it - otherwise power rankings would be the reverse of the draft order until after week 1.

No they don't, with that thinking he could just reverse the draft order :D

The Colts were the 3rd best team in the AFC last year. They won, good for them, but that has no bearing on their strength going into this year.

His comment about the Patriots defense being responsible for the loss, likewise, is silly because half our starters weren't on the field. With league average injuries, our defense is NOT a problem.

WRONG! They won the SB, they where #1 period! There may have been better statistical teams, teams with more wins and even more talent. Yet those teams didn't win the SB, which means they where NOT the best team last year.

The first year the Pats one the SB, they didn't have the most talent, they best record or the best stats. They did however step up as a team when it mattered and won the SB. They where the best team that year!

Well atleast IMHO

I'm just repeating myself now but the best team doesn't always win - they are the 2006 Champions and will be forever, I'm not saying anything should be taken away - but when you look ahead to 2007 and look at how good they were relative to the Patriots and Chargers then look at the changes, I don't think they're #1. I don't think they were last year and that has been exacurbated this offseason.

What? There is no doubt that St. Louis was the best team in football. The Pats figured out a way to beat them on that particular Sunday, but I'm certainly glad it wasn't a best-of-three series.

Right, we won, it's in the history books and good for us (same as the Colts last year). But it didn't help much in 2002 and that's what we're talking about now - who looks like the best team in 2007 - and it's not the Colts.

The champs should be #1 until they're beaten

That's stupid. Were the Bronocs #1 after repeating when Elway retired ? Nope. Things change. Last season is in the mirror now.

Assuming that the previous season's champ is necessarily still the best in the upcoming year is silly. You won, good for you. But if another team looks better than you, you drop out of the top spot. That's how it works in college football. And did anyone really think that St. Louis should have been #1 in the 2007 MLB rankings? Pleeeeeease.

Pete Prisco, Peyton Manning's ballwasher is at it already. he has the Colts on top of his power rankings. he feels their losses (especially the defensive) are NO BIG DEAL. Wow, remember last year...our losses were the end of the world.

he also brings up the AFC Championship and the second half defensive collapse. Um, Pete...we had a ton of injuries and the flu. Think that had anything to do with it??? What a jackass.

If I remember correctly, the Pats had a pretty good lead in the first half. Guess all the injuries and flu came into play during halftime, huh?

If you looked at the sideline in the first half compared to the second half you'd see that it correct in large part (other than the Harrisons, Wilsons, etc, who didn't make the trip).

That's the thing about injuries. They tend to come into play when guys actually get injured.

It's wacky.

Um, yes they did. Check the injuries and when they started. Colvin was in Manning's face the entire first half. Injured in the second half as was Bruschi, Seymour and I believe hawkins. So, get your facts straight before you spout off...

Hawkins was definitely out. As mediocre as he is, he was a big loss as not many teams can survive against the Colts with their 3rd Free Safety (while playing with the 2nd Strong Safety).

But let's look at the biggest loss...Colvin. he was a monster in the first half. manning was hit, sacked and had no time to throw...therefore, no points. When he cam out the Colts had ALL DAY to throw the ball...

Yeah, I know. It sucks. But Colvin being out then doesn't help the Colts THIS year, I'm not sure why people don't get that.

we also had a third string linebacker trying to cover dallas clark

im pretty sure he is the least pressurised QB in the NFL by some distance.

maybe of all time.

due in part to his ability to get the ball out so quickly/accurately....but obviously, those 10 yard comebacks (that set up everything else) don't exactly work with Caldwell and Gaffney.

I have to agree with BelichickFan here.

What happened last year doesn't really matter. The Colts were the 2006 champs and ended the season atop the 2006 rankings and got plenty of recognition for that. You aren't slighting the 2006 Indianapolis Colts if you say that you don't think the 2007 Colts will be the top team.

If the Colts and Pats both stood pat then I'd say you could still call Indy #1. That didn't happen though, as Indy has suffered losses (even if they aren't big they are losses without any real gains to offset them) while NE has greatly improved.

I don't have an issue with the Colts being ranked No. 1. Like most have said, No. 1 until someone knocks them off.

That said, Prisco's double standard irks me. Had the Patriots lost players of similar caliber, it would have been "devastating" and the "Pats are cheap" etc. The Colts lose them, and well, it's just not that big of a deal because it's the Colts and everyone loves Peyton and the Gang!

Either way, as I said when everyone was worried about the Pats not being able to fly under the radar anymore and being considered a SB favorite forget about it.

By August all of Dungy and Manning's media minions (read: ballwashers) will have rallied around their beloved Colts. It's the only thing they know. They WANT these guys to repeat and it shows. So even with the Moss, Thomas, the other signings and the draft all of which have clearly (despite what Prisco says) improved this team on both sides of the ball, there will still be a no respect angle to be played if the Pats choose to go down that route.

What's also comical is Prisco's assumption that Gonzalez will automatically come in and light it up even though during the draft he said they took the wrong WR. Conversely, he completely discounts the impact of Brandon Meriweather on our defense which I think most of us believe will be significant. Again, the bias shows. Rooke WR often struggle. The road to success for a rookie safety is a little easier.
