Russel Wilson is a very likeable guy at first, but once you start hearing the excessive references to religion/God and his overly philosophical quotes, it comes off as trying way too hard. What's worse is that most people eat it up.

I guess he's still likeable, but that **** gets annoying after a while.

I don't believe in god, but this strikes me as less egocentric than most proclamations of athletic faith. Rather than thinking his deity picks sides, Russell is viewing this as a test and an opportunity to be a good role model. Football is little more than an avenue for a larger message.

I disagree - I never thought of Wilson as likeable, just a person who was in the right place at the right time. To me he seems like a mini-peyton where its never his fault but everyone else's when something goes wrong. Then there's also the story of him divorcing his wife the day right after winning the SB while he was on his rookie contract presumably so that if he divorced her later he wouldn't have to give her anything. Don't know the whole reasoning behind it, but he did divorce her the day after winning the SB. To me thats not a very likeable person.

To me a likeable person is someone like Aaron Rodgers or Joe Montana, and (pats bias here since fans of every other team hates him) Brady. I even find Andrew Luck very likable, I know you guys will kill me for that, but Luck is a really nice guy. These are guys that epitomize how to show humility and give respect to their fans, teammates and opponent. Anyways, just my opinion.

I think some people might be taking his words a little too literally. I highly doubt he actually heard a voice, that would be teetering on the edge of crazy. I think when people say "God spoke to me," 99 times out of a 100 they mean they got a feeling inside them that this is what they're supposed to do. It probably comes from years of ingrained religious teachings, but to them it's easier to explain as simply the voice of God.

I think it bears mentioning that Tom Brady is a church-going Catholic, and he was quoted in an Esquire or GQ interview saying he "didn't think God gave a s**t" about the outcome of a football game... I tend to side with Brady on that.
