Is Tom Brady Making the Right Move By Remaining Silent Before His Appeal?

Steve Balestrieri

Tom Brady hasn't spoken regarding his appeal of this four-game suspension by the NFL for Deflate-gate. He probably won't speak until his appeal on June 23

Without any doubt. Yes, yes, and again yes. He is making the right move by staying silent.

Of course he is. He has the NFL, the sports media, and public opinion against him based on little more than inflamed passions and questionable agendas. Don't give them anything. Don't dignify this nonsense with a response. Get before a true neutral with the authority to do something meaningful and then let them have it.

Yes. He has nothing to gain by making a statement.

Yes. It would be nice if he carried it over into the regular season too. Seeing how most of them showed him no respect it would be great if he answered them all like his coach does.

No, he should ignore his lawyers advice and do whatever Ben Volin and Rob Parker tell him to do. They may be morons but they know what is best for Tom Brady.

If you are paying big bucks for high powered attorneys, do you ignore their advice???

His attorneys will do the speaking for him at the right time in the right forum..

For some reason there are those who equate silence with an admission of guilt, nothing is further from the truth... Goodell allegedly wants to hear this appeal as he wants to listen to #12's side of the story, in reality Brady can remain silent, for the most part, and allow his legal team to rebut the Wells Report..

This whole thing is about a world that expects immediate responses to complicated situations..

Yes, you do yourself no favors especially if you misspeak, become confused or are misquoted. Best to stay silent.

I'd welcome a carefully-worded, brief written or spoken statement of 5 sentences:

1) I am innocent of the charges that have been leveled against me.
2) I intend to vigorously oppose these false charges by all means necessary.
3) A press conference is not an appropriate forum for me to discuss the case now, with my appeal ongoing.
4) After the case is fully resolved I will be happy to answer questions.
5) The facts of the case clearly support my innocence and the truth will be heard.

Of course, it would be nice if he sent his fans and supporters a message saying something like, "To all those concerned with the recent allegations, I categorically deny ever instructing anyone to manipulate football psi pressure to a range outside the parameters of the applicable rule. I won't be issuing any further public statements on the matter except during formal proceedings. Thank you for your support."

I think that would work but I don't think there's anything to gain either way. Those who think he's guilty will just say it's a weasel statement, those who think he's innocent will continue to think that. Maybe they'll release something as the appeal date gets closer.

Yes, when you have better advice you do just that. Ben Violin, Rob Parker, and Marshall Faulk are professionals who understand football and media relations better than any lawyer ever will, and they are just looking out for Tom's best interests. Brady should listen to them, admit his guilt and apologize for deflating balls and fixing games so that other teams would lose, so he should just beg forgiveness and provide Marshall with a lifetime of pedicures.

Yup its the new age of social media and everyone's entitlement and desire for instant gratification on everything

Me to, but mine would go like this:

1) Are you serious? Air pressure? Get the f.ck out of here.

2) Roger Goodell is an incompetent weasel, he can kiss my @ss.

3) I called this presser to announce Giselle's retirement, and she will still make twice as much as that slimey little weasel Goodell.

4) You guys can all blow me.

5) Really, I mean it, on your knees, now, all of you!
