If the Jets get a mid-first round pick for Vilma and use all their first day picks this year (2 firsts, 2 seconds and a third) can they then sign Samuel at the cost of 2 firsts?

They would greatly improve their team, add Samuel at our expense and we wouldn't receive anything before 2008.

I think they can pull this off if they wait till the draft is over. Lets face it BB won't trade with the Jets and their draft picks won't be until the end of round 1, I would think.

They add to their team and take away from ours. Is there anything under the tag that would prevent this?

I believe that if the Jets sign Samuel to a contract that they will have to give up their 2007 and 2008 1st rounders so the Pats will get at least pick #25 from them this year. No need to worry.

I think the question was what happens if they sign Samuel after the draft -- are the Pats left high and dry for 2007, but with extra 1st rounders in 2008 & 2009? (Personally I wouldn't worry about this scenario, I can't picture the Jets mortgaging their future like that for a good-but-not-great DB.)

How is giving us two first round picks for Samuel screwing us and why would you want to prevent it? We get two first round picks for Samuel? I don't care if they are this year and next, or next year and the year after.

Take those two first round picks and laugh at the Jets.

If the JEST want to offer two first-rounders, I don't care if they're 2008 and 2009 or 2011 and 2012, I'd take it in a heartbeat.
