OK, according to one reporters tweet (Volin I think) I saw in this thread 11 of 12 balls measured at halftime were an identical 11 PSI.

According to the post of a few engineers and science guys in this thread the temperature difference between a 70 degree room and 50 degree outside temp would cause the ball pressure to decrease by 1.77 PSI.

11 PSI (at halftime during 50 degree weather) + 1.77 (the pressure loss due to a 20 degree change in temp) = 12.77 PSI. Over the minimum of 12.5 PSI mandated by the rules.

The main question becomes :1) Did the refs check the pressure of the balls, and if so, under what conditions were they checked?

If they weren't checked, the NFL can go bleep itself. It's on the refs to enforce that rule.

If they were checked at normal room temperature, the change in temperature completely exonerates us. Unless the league is going to make us responsible for the weather too. And BTW if that is the case the league could also go bleep itself.

If the balls were checked outside a few hours before the game. But only a short time after they were taken from a heated area the league can go bleep itself. They would still be retaining much of the heat, and corresponding pressure, from the heated area and the temp change of the ball over the course of a half game of football exonerates us.

But if the balls were checked outside, after the balls were outside for a while and 11 of 12 lost exactly the same amount of pressure we got problems.

7.2% is still too great without a defect. We all know they leak but that's too much over a few hours for a sealed bladder. One or two is fine but not 11
No the 7.2% is not a leak or doesn't have to be. Air temps from pumping time to halftime will lower pressure without removing any air at all.

betcha thats why they are distraught about it

they cannot blame the Pats but only themselves

Yea maybe they don't know who to really blame. Pats or the officials

I'm gonna go ahead and deactivate my Facebook...

I haven't checked mine since Sunday night. No joke.

I'm in the middle of a bunch of Steeler fans, living here in Pittsburgh. My pain runs deep.

It says something about your feelings towards the credibility of the nfl and their punishments when you fully expect that when a rogue player on your team commits murder that it wouldn't surprise you if you were held accountable for it.

When that story broke it was pats should of known this or that, or they had a secret sex pad for the players to get away to and blah blah.

Enough is a damn nuff

I agree with this. Potentially, there are two issues. One is the fact that the NFL officials played loosey goosey with the rules and didn't properly inspect the balls prior to the game. In this instance, I still think it's very possible that the NFL still holds the Patriots responsible, because even if the refs should have caught the underweight balls, they can say that the Patriots should never have intentionally submitted the the underweight balls. The second issue is the Rodgers comment. This makes the incident more than just an isolated event by one subpar crew. It indicates something more widespread. Because of this, Goodell won't be able to just nail the Pats and move on without the Shield being tarnished.

Obviously, this is just my conjecture.

The intense focus on the Pats may end up exposing a lot that goes on with all teams but it hasn't been an issue because they don't get the anal exam the Pats get.

Now this may end being something that is scrutinized for all teams.

We're getting to see how the NFL sausage is made, and there may be a lot of players and fans around the country who wish this had been left alone.

Holy ****ing ****, this thread is suddenly filled with physics experts.

Is this the freaking crowd from the gameday threads who walk out of a game when the opposing team kicks a fieldgoal on their opening possession?

This is so freaking pathetic.

ESPN leaked such out of context information on an investigation that isn't even complete and you're all idiots eating it up.

Holy ****.

The posts in this thread make me angrier than the though of us being proven guilty of doing anything (which hasn't even come close to happening, by the way).

Most of ESPN doesn't like us. THAT is not a conspiracy.

The information leaked, to the common observer, immediately damns us because its what everyone was hoping to read.

THE INVESTIGATION HAS NOT HAPPENED. WE HAVEN'T BEEN PROVEN GUILTY.

Wow.

we are just discussing the days events...its ok

At this point, I don't have faith that we'll be found innocent of any wrongdoing. What does everyone think the worst case scenario punishment will be? Loss of draft pick, Belichick suspension, severe fine, etc.?

Life is too short to speculate on misery before it actually happens.

we don't know when and how it was measured at this point. We don't know if they were even used during the game and pumped up. In bad weather, the home team can supply and extra 12 balls... there are a lot of assumptions.

My response was to the notion that the balls lost that much air when measured under the same conditions. We don't know anything else at this point but I assume the NFL would be smart enough to take this into account...we don't know.

Year suspension for BB. More draft picks. Fine.

Actually, the best answer Pats can provide is that equipment manager inflated balls with hot air which is perfectly legal and ingenious and will lead to yet another rule change.

The nfl will suspend belechick for a year if they believe it was one purpose

Let's see if they have the balls to do it for the super bowl.

Did they really have to deflate the ball against the dolts? Really bill? Lol.

I wonder when we will get a statement from our coach and owner
