That was the THIRD time this season that, in the final two minutes of the first half and the Patriots comfortably driving down the field, with all the confidence in the world and perfectly happy to punt or run the clock out, Brady has underthrown Gronkowski because Gronkowski broke up the field and Brady threw the ball straight into coverage, thinking Gronkowski would come back for the ball.

The first time it happened was with under 2:00 left in the first half at Indianapolis. We all thought it was one of Brady's worst throws of his career, considering the time and circumstances.

The second time it happened was with under 2:00 left in the first half at San Diego. We all thought it was one of Brady's worst throws of his career, considering the time and circumstances. I was at that game couldn't believe was a poor mis-read it was.

Then yesterday, exact same situation, with under 2:00 left in the first half against Baltimore, and with the Patriots driving with all the momentum on first down, Brady again tries to throw to Gronk who breaks downfield.

In all three scenarios, the intercepting defender looked shocked that the ball was thrown right to him.

I hope this is the last we see of this play.

I should note that they did also win all three games.

Actually, I think its a great play design.
Brady should have thrown to Amendola underneath where the LB departed for a modest but easy gain.

It would be great if we don't see another instance of that. All under thrown balls. Gronk was definitely open deep in SD. And Brady could have got the ball over Smith's head on Saturday. Against IND, Gronk was open but he under threw him because of pressure. Would have been better off taking the sack.

It was open and with a better throw it probably works. Brady just needs to throw a better ball, and i have every confidence he can do it. Bad throws happen over a season .

Brady threw the ball too low. If he'd thrown it higher, Gronk would probably still be running.

That isn't what happened, Brady just made a bad throw. It also wasn't similar to prior plays, so I'm not seeing the comparable there either.

As Pete wrote above, had Brady just dumped it down to Amendola, they have a free first down and likely kill the clock from there. It wasn't a play call or personnel issues, just a bad throw.
