NFL Playoffs: Detroit Lions at Dallas Cowboys - odds, stats, preview and prediction

Today as then, face-guarding is still not against the rules.

Oddly enough, that article states that George RR Martin is a Jets fan.

George RR Martin said:
George R.R. Martin is not a Lions fan. Instead, he is the author of the books that form the basis of the “Game of Thrones” series. Plus, he’s a Jets fan, and as someone who’s experienced his share of NFL torment, he had a strong opinion about Sunday’s events, which he shared on his blog:

If I was a Detroit Lions fan, I’d be screaming for referee blood about that.

Picking up that flag on a FLAGRANT pass interference by Dallas in the fourth quarter was the worse call… or non-call… the NFL has seen since… well… since the non-call on the botched field goal attempt in the Giants/ 49ers playoff game ages ago.

Shocking. Really shocking.

The Lions could still have won the game. They did lots to blow it afterward, from penalties of their own (none as flagrant, none picked up) to blown coverages to a shanked punt and a fumble. But still… Detroit could well have locked up the victory on that drive, the play was textbook pass interference, the penalty needed to stand. The defender mugged the tight end.

One for the books.

No wonder he goes around killing characters in his books. He's just writing how he experiences the real world as a Jets fan.

No, actually, it's not. It's the same call (underthrown pass with receiver trying to get back to it, defender runs into receiver), which is the point. You're wrong with the thug nonsense, and you're wrong with the call.

Don't call black people thugs when they aren't violent criminals(the actual definition), its not a huge request. People are getting too lax with the socially accepted bigotry. It's tiresome.

He isn't "going" back to the ball he's reaching for it post face mask grab. Torrie Smith probably should start getting credit for drawing these DPI's apparently its a technique. Watch this video. Doesn't look to hand fighting at all actually...

I just found out that George RR Martin is a Jets fan.

No wonder Martin goes around killing characters in his books.

He has a blog too where he talks about football and cries about the Jets.
He actually trolled Patriot fans and our 2007 season in A Dance with Dragons:

"The galley was also where the ship's books were kept... the fourth and final volume of The Life of the Triarch Belicho, a famous Volantene patriot whose unbroken succession of conquests and triumphs ended rather abruptly when he was eaten by giants,"

But I can't hate him for it. GoT too good!

You just blew my mind. Is that a real exerpt or you messing around?

It has nothing to do with his color but rather his behavior, are there any white players that act like him and receive different treatment?

Also, if you think being labeled a thug is tiresome imagine how tiring it is being victimized by thugs, that's why people take issue with Sherman endorsing that image.

I love how a simple discussion about a PI call around here seems to mean battle lines are drawn in the sand and sides have been chosen for a thousand year blood feud.

From this angle it looks like a clear cut case of an offensive facemask penalty on Detroit.
Everyone still say pass interference? Difficult perhaps to turn around and play a ball when the receiver is dragging you by your facemask, yes?

There's nothing to disagree about. It's 100% DPI. Even the referee's explanation backs that. The overrule was supposedly because a second official thought it was just a face guarding. In other words, they let the official with the worse angle overrule the better placed official. It was clearly more than just a face guard.

I'm one who's consistently railed against the new interpretation of the rule, but this is a 100% spot on DPI by that new interpretation.

Sherman is not a Thug. WPP is right. Stop calling him that. Call him a jackass or an ******* if you must but stop calling him a thug. Its aggravating. Talking **** on the field is not akin to being a criminal. There are true thugs in the NFL (Suggs for example) that deserve to be called as such. Sherman has done nothing to be labeled a violent criminal.

And half of you *****ing about his "thuggery" would cream your pants if he joined this team so stop acting all high and mighty.

Changed it just for you, pumpkin.
Thanks, but no need to further belabor your race-baiting nonsense. There's fertile ground for that in this board's Political Forum. Perhaps you can vent your spleen there, I think your input would be welcome. As for your sig struggles: despite its obvious redundancy, WEST PHILLY AGITATING TROLL would suffice just fine. ;)

It's not like the receiver cut to the left or cut to the right and then got mauled. He stopped, turned, and tried to catch a football in the defensive backs running lane, which hit the DB in the back.

If you and I are running full speed together and I stop right in front of you (after the pass was thrown, mind you, on a timing based play), what are you supposed to do about it?

The receiver knows the play and the timing of the play. The DB doesn't. He can't be expected to know a ball is coming his way when the receiver hasn't even turned towards it. The pass makes all the difference here. It hit the DB. It was a bad pass. You're sandwiching the defensive player between a receiver and a pass on a timing based play. Totally unfair in my opinion.
you missed the part where he pushed the receivers shoulder..PI

I didn't call him a thug, and I wouldn't want him on the Pats if he didn't change his tune, I root for and against teams because of the players on it, I want to see people I like win and those I dislike lose, adding Sherman would make a things a lot more gray and less enjoyable for me.

So that would be mutual contact initiated by the receiver then, right?

I didn't name you at all. So I'm not sure why you think I'm talking to you. And I said half not all. Comprehension is your friend.

nobody will ever see that in real time. and he barely touched facemask in slow-mo. those little things happen all the time. but the whole play was PI from naked eyes - it was a PI by today's rule. we see that getting called in today's offensive driven league.

if they didn't call it? fine. there will be lions fans crying that 'boys' get all the calls. but when you call it then lift the flag up, then the whole country cries about it and say NFL is rigged.

Agreed. And then on the ensuing Cowboys drive they got 2 defensive holding calls. This was a sketchy game, if I'm a Lions fan i'm pissed

When did I say you named me? You named people complaining about his 'thuggery', which I'm one of.

Logic, doesn't seem to be your friend.
