Something seems wrong with Peyton. I don't think he is 100% healthy and I suspect the Broncos are concealing an injury.
Manning looks like his body is beginning to finally feel the effects of all of those hits he's taken over the course of his career and is beginning to break down. I don't think he's fully done yet. He's still capable of some pretty good throws (albeit throws that have a lot of air under them), but I think the end is very near.
I agree that he can still beat you but watching him throw is unlike anything I have seen in the NFL, and agree with the poster who compared it to Pennington. If they were simply showing his throws anonymously people would say his arm is to weak to play in the NFL.
I felt it was weak last season as well but this year it has been demonstrably weaker and has gotten even weaker as the season has gone on. Unless something changes significantly this offseason I think he has one year left at the most----if that?
I'm not even sure about that. If he gets destroyed in the playoffs while his throws flutter through the breeze and into the hands of defenders, he could retire as early as this offseason. Then again, Manning is a stats whore and another NFL season would mean more records in his name, as embarrassing as it may be for him in late November-January.
I agree that's what he should do but think he will be unwilling to go out on those terms and will busy his as to try and come back next season. It will be v really interesting to see what Elway thinks about Mannings arm and what his future holds.
No one could argue that he is not still a very productive and dangerous QB, he clearly is and his numbers reflect that. However the difference between Manning and the other top QBs is that his arm strength has clearly diminished significantly and teams realize it and are tapering their defensive strategies to exploit it. The Broncos had better pray for good weather because the one condition he absolutely cannot deal with is the wind, and if they get windy conditions they are done imo, unless they get the Colts, who they could run on all day.
Actually 6th if you count playoffsIf done is most TDs in the NFL and 4th most in yardage with a 102 rating, then yes he is done. It was the 5th time in his career he has thrown a 4 pick game.
.
If Peyton totally beclowns himself in January, either one & done or playing badly in 2 games, but losing the 2nd, I think Elway has to re-think Manning's impact on the franchise. If Peyton appears totally fried as a playoff level QB, it would be best to spend the cap re-signing the young talent while taking a year or two to find another FA QB.
All said, we read way too much into our last look at any player or team. Manning may have one big playoff game left in him after recuperating over the bye week. I think he does.
He's got a thigh injury. But the real reason for his struggles is julius thomas and wes welker are not playing to their 2013 levels. Manning is good, but you need to baby him by surrounding him with talent like 3 or 4 healthy and good receivers.
