@jeffphowe: Belichick told Dobson he had his back and would release a statesmen to "kill the story, Dobson said.

SMY is going to need to have a bit of a chat with her source, apparently.

So is Amendola immune to the "football reasons" inactive because he is Josh's guy?

3 rec in 4 games for 16 yards and I think 2 of them he got open because of a pick.

No, they're not. Any NFL level receiver can run a deep route and be a 'threat' in that sense. That's not what people mean when they talk about true deep threats. Right now, Dobson's a middle-deep guy. Dobson's Brandon Lloyd, not Randy Moss, and Thomkins is Gaffney.

There's nothing wrong with that, but that's what they are.

How many Randy Mosses are there in the NFL? How many teams have a legitimate deep threats on their team?

I spoke to Dobson for a couple minutes. He heard about the story, immediately spoke to Belichick about it to express concern.

The story was BS i'm just thinking Dobson is still no 100% confident on that foot and thus not 100% up to game speed yet and Thompkins was just genuinely dropped from the roster as a gameday decision because BB didn't think he could contribute more than the other receivers.

A speed WR who hasn't got his speed back is usually less effective in his position than a slot receiver who doesn't have his speed back.

That's alright. We need those skill sets more than a true deep threat, IMO.

But the thing is it doesn't kill the story, it may change the direction of the story but I don't think it will kill it knowing the media nowadays. Now that Belichick made an official statement it will go one of two ways.

People think Pats are just doing damage control because it leaked out.

or

People go on about how their 2nd round WR has regressed and it's looking like another bust of a pick.

Give me a middle-deep receiver who can occasionally take the top off of a defense, and I'm fine with that. The Patriots haven't had that in a long time. Dobson plays as if that's what he'll be.

Almost all of them. We are among the few that don't.

That is ridiculous. There are plenty of teams that don't have a deep threat.

Who is the deep threat in Indy? With the Chiefs? With the Jets? The Vikings? The Saints? The 49ers? The Rams?

But be ready to hear from the local media that "BB would of course say that" .So if he denies , then he is lying, when he doesnt say anything he is lying. Thats how the media has become. Throw something and create a new story for the cycle.

Thank goodness. I thought Dobson was a dog faker.

BTW, this is what is wrong with journalism these days. In the past, you get a scoop like this, you wouldn't run with it unless you got independent verification from a second and possibly a third source. SMY ran with it after one source told her. That used to be a significant journalist crime, now you get aqn "Oh well, sometimes my sources are wrong" Tweet.

From SMY Twitter account:

I spoke to Aaron Dobson...he told me he didn't have an incident with McDaniels. we shook hands. sources can be wrong sometimes.

Tampa Bay - Vincent Jackson
Arizona - Larry Fitzgerald/Michael Floyd
San Francisco - Anquan Boldin/Michael Crabtree
Seattle - Percy Harvin

That leaves us and the Jets, Jaguars, Kansas City, and St Louis without true deep threats but when you look at it you can argue that their receivers as a group are better than ours (Jets aside)

Where does the “does not have speed back” coming from? Amendola has been full go since the beginning of May when OTAs start, if he does not have his speed back it is not coming back. Dobson had foot surgery on 3/11/14 that is nearly 7 months ago, you honestly do not think he is has his speed back yet? Dobson is not on the field because he pissed off the coaching staff, Belichick is trying to spin it because the team has an Oakland Raiders image lately and they do not need this added to the fire.

If you're calling ALL the guys on that list true deep threats, you're being pretty generous with the term. And, by that definition, BOTH Dobson and Thompkins could develop into the role.

Because spinning things is what Belichick is none for. That was a pretty definitive statement he made.

There is no way without blatantly lying to yourself that you can say none of those receivers listed are better deep options than what we have and wouldn't be an upgrade.

Those teams all have at least 1 WR who has the speed or size to get down field and be a threat.

Colts – TY Hilton, Hakeem Nicks, Donte Moncrief
Chiefs – Dwayne Bowe
Jets – Eric Decker
Vikings – Cordarrelle Patterson, Greg Jennings
Saints – Kenny Stills, Brandin Cooks
49ers – Anquan Boldin, Michael Crabtree, Stevie Johnson
Rams – Brian Quick, Travis Austin, Kenny Britt

Brandon LaFell is a threat to get down field, he is not a great one but he has the size to be a threat at least.
