2. Can any QB succeed behind Houston's non-existent O-line?
3. Why didn't Houston at least try to TRADE Carr instead of cut him for no value in return?

The Texans have been trying to trade Carr the entire offseason with no takers. He has no trade value because he was going to be cut no matter what.
His contract essentially made it that he could control where he was traded. Since no one was going to pay the 11.5m a year the existing deal had, he could simply refuse to renegotiate with any trade partner Houston could find.
OK, well why cut Carr instead of re-negotiate with him, and why get a relatively unknown in Schaub (only good in one game against the Pats when our secondary was horrible), pay valuable picks for him, AND pay him big money?
They passed on Vince Young and Reggie Bush to build on top of David Carr and Dominick Davis. But after one season they CUT Carr, get rid of Davis, trade two second-round picks and swap 1st rounders for Matt Schaub, and then give Schaub 48 million over 6 years!? That is almost Drew Brees-type money.
Good lord, the Texans are challenging the Lions and Matt Millen for the most bone-headed franchise in the league.
I'm in the minority because I thought this was the best move in the history of their franchise.
Here's a prediction....Schaub, a less mobile QB than Carr, will take fewer sacks and we'll soon forget how BAD their O-line is.
Schaub can see and read the field from the pocket, he knows how to move in the pocket, deliver the ball efficiently, accurately and above all fearlessly. His linemen trust him and know where he's going to be, he understands that it's smart to stay in the pocket even when it doesn't SEEM safe.
And he's a leader....something they've never had.
If you're looking for an NFL track record Schaub doesn't have one....neither do any of the kids in the upcoming draft so don't bother with that either.
Of course Carr had a track record, but because he was a #1 overall selection and the heralded face of the franchise he got a free pass.
Casserly and Capers are out....the new regime is rebuilding. I don't care how many holes a team has, the cornerstone is always the QB....Kubiak understands this...so does everyone else who came from the Bill Walsh tree....and 99% of coaches who didn't.
If you think this is a bad move then you clearly don't know much about Matt Schaub.
Best thing about it for us is that it raised the value for Trent Green....MIAMI WILL HAVE TO SURRENDER MORE to the Chiefs in order for Cam Cameron to get the guy he wants.
me said:I must admit that I don't share the Carr love that many have. I think he is n othing more than than a journeyman, a Joey Harrington redux, if you will.
I won't be surprised at all if he finds a place where he can be moderately successful, maybe even starting out quite good.
But I will be surprised if he amounts to anything above mediocre.
