Exorcising the Cancer....a Lesson Learned in Cleveland

Caught the tail end of the Eric Reed Show with Leroy Heard on 790AM in S. Florida. Hoard played for Belichick in Cleveland and he was telling stories about the Cleveland days and what an amazing coaching staff BB had assembled. The coaching talent was so deep Pioli and Mangini were the gophers. Anyway, Hoard waxed poetically about the great football minds and how approachable BB was and how it was the best football environment he ever was a part of....great locker room/great team mates, etc.

Then in 1995, the team's last year in Cleveland, BB signed a big time free agent who quickly became the team's locker room lawyer and team cancer....and BB eventually lost the locker room as Andre Rison turned players against the coaches, the team, and the city. I'm paraphrasing now, but Hoard blamed Rison first and foremost for the disfunction of the '95 Browns.

A lesson learned: BB has been very quick to operate on this NE team when a cancer surfaces. Locker room lawyer Adalius Thomas was removed. Unfocused Randy Moss was surgically removed with lightning speed. After Cleveland, BB has likely vowed never to lose the locker room again.

There was an NFL films production, can't remember which, where there was a conversation of BB talking about it. It's been cited a few times on this site, so maybe someone else can chime in on the exact clip.
