I'm curious as to what you like about Khairi Fortt, you've been featuring him quite regularly recently.

Refer to size and athleticism (combine results) in the following write-up:

Khairi Fortt, OLB, California, NFL Draft - CBSSports.com - NFLDraftScout.com

COMPARES TO: Zaviar Gooden, Outside Linebacker, Tennessee Titans - Fortt's "plus" athleticism and sideline-to-sideline range are similar to those of Gooden, a 2013 third-round selection of the Titans. However, Fortt's ability to shed blocks and be a consistent contributor between the tackles should present him as a more versatile prospect than Gooden, who was viewed more as a run-and-hit 'backer that needed more space for his impact to be maximized.

Screams value to me and most likely would be an upgrade to Ja'Gared Davis and Chris White at the linebacker position.

I agree that he's a good combination of size and athleticism. I need to revisit him. I wasn't overly impressed when I watched him but that might have just been me. Will go back and take another look.

That really is a bad mock for a lot of reasons.

I usually don't waste time even looking at these mocks. The average quality of what so-called "professionals" put out isn't anywhere near the quality of what some people put out on this board. And there are at least a dozen people on this board who are considerably more knowledgable about the draft than guys like Frentz.

While researching that quick mock above, I noticed one thing I hadn't before. I use mike Loyko's combine spreadsheet as my source for performances there and I noticed that on his second 40, Kareem Martin's 10 yard split was 1.53. That is better than Clowney (1.56). To be fair, Martin's first 10 yd was 1.60 but even so, an interesting data point.

I was watching some Martin over the weekend and one of the things that impressed me most is his awareness and smarts. He had his head up and blew up a reverse and any runs to the outside. On another play a running back went low and blew him off his feet on a rush. Next time matched up against the same running back when he dove at Martin's ankles he used his inside hand to deflect the blow pushing off the back's shoulder. When lined up at DT the guards were funneling him out to the tackles. He realized it and started out straight up but as soon as the center committed he used the A gap vs getting funneled into the double team.

Also a good motor and lined up all over the D-Line.

#33 Louis Nix, DT
#40 Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE
#62 Marcus Martin, OC
#72 Dominique Easley, DT
#93 C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE
#126 Jordan Tripp, OLB
#CP Aaron Lynch, DE
#182 Jeff Janis, WR
#190 John Urschel, OG
#221 Trey Millard, FB

Outstanding mock. Minus the first selection I like every pick. But getting Easley and all the other selections makes me ok with selecting Nix as a run stopper because it was so nicely done. You hit on almost every pick.

Sorry I've seen nothing from Nix that impresses me besides his size. No penetration, just a big body in the middle that happens to fit the profile of a NT. To all the Nix fans out there I have a question? Have you watched him actually play games or are you going off of other mock drafts? Is this a reaction pick to the possible departure of Wilfork? What is it you like about him? I'm just curious. Would you be ok with a late flyer on Kerr or Ellis who actually showed some penetration during the Sr and Shrine bowls? I've been plenty wrong regarding every thing in the draft and I'm hoping I'm wrong regarding this prospect.

Trying to figure out why this writer project Marcus Martin in round six?

Martin is one of those prospects nobody seems to agree on. I've seen multiple analysts grade him as the top center in the draft and a 2nd-round pick; multiple others who grade him as the #3 or 4 and a 3rd-4th round pick; and here's one that projects him in round 7!

2014 NFL Draft Center Rankings | Static | Rankings

My ideal scenario would look something like this.

Trades –
- Ryan Mallett and pick #190 to the Houston Texans for picks #65 and #97.
- Pick #29 to the Oakland Raiders for picks #36 and #67.

Mock Draft –
- #36-Jace Amaro, TE
- #62-Kareem Martin, DE
- #65-Marcus Martin, OC
- #67-Dominique Easley, DT
- #93-DaQuan Jones, DT
- #97-C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE
- #126-Jordan Tripp, OLB
- #182-Jeff Janis, WR
- #CP-Matt Patchan, OT
- #221-Jonathan Dowling, DB

It would rely on some players dropping.

Dane Brugler has us taking CJ Mosley in his latest mock which would disappoint me with Hageman still on the board. But people on here who know me will get my excitement at these two backto back picks:

20. Arizona Cardinals

(10-6) Kyle Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech: Arizona has added some key contributors in the secondary through the early rounds of the draft with Patrick Peterson and Tyrann Mathieu and Fuller would make an excellent addition.

21. Green Bay Packers

(8-7-1) Jimmie Ward, SS, Northern Illinois: Green Bay has a need at free safety and although it would be somewhat uncharacteristic for Ted Thompson to go safety in the first round, Ward gives the Packers an instant upgrade in the secondary.

2014 NFL Mock Drafts - Dane Brugler - CBSSports.com NFLDraftScout.com

It's not something I've thought of before but adding Fuller to Peterson and Mathieu is really interesting.

This is going to be my post FA week 1 Mock. To make it fun I am going to do this mock with all new players (none I have used before!). Should be interesting.

#29 - Dee Ford - DE - pass rush specialist.. something we could for sure use and a interesting direction to go in. Also his run D is good enough. He will not embarrass himself on running downs if not over used.

#62 - Gabe Jackson - OG - Massive body. This annoys a lot of Patriots fans cause the patriots could have easily moved up to get one of the top 4 TEs or a DT. However this guy is good value.

#93 - Ed Reynolds - SS - The Patriots continue to build their D and look to find a true full time SS. I like many think A. Wilson is not going to work and if Browner plays a lot of corner they will want someone at this spot for the times they do use cover 2 looks.

4 - George Uko - DT - The Patriots finally address DT and do it with good value IMO. Uko is a below average run defender but one of the better pass rushing DTs in this draft. His burst his fairly fearsome. Raw but high upside. Could use some good coaching. : P

6 - Joe Don Duncon - TE - The Patriots obviously did not believe in the top TE talent in this draft but get good value here. Duncon is a bit risky cause no one can say for sure how good he will be. He did very well against sub-par competition and has good hands. Projects better as a pass catcher than run blocker.

6 - Taylor Hart - DE - This is just taking a shot. Hart is a mammoth DE 6-7 280 who is faster than he has a right to be. He has the "Tweener" label which will make teams weary but his upside is interesting. The Patriots may as well double down on DE because I see Buchannon and Bequette both gone. If nothing else he can be the run stopping DE to compliment Ford's pass rushing ability.

7 - Gabe Ikard - C - The Patriots didn't feel a strong need to address center feeling they had a suitable player in Connolly. Gabe is interesting though as he is quicker than you would expect. Just another shot in the dark

Keep in mind like I said these I players I have never picked in my mocks so obviously it looks a little weird. Makes for an interesting take though.

Always appreciate having some new names to consider. Well done.

I have used the Fanspeak on the draft module for this draft:

29. Rashede Hageman DT Minnesota - He has off field issues and some people say that he is lazy, but he has the size and athleticism to be another Seymour.

62. Brandon Thomas OG Clemson - Another case of BB taking a OT and making him a OG. He has the quickness to be a pulling OG as well as the pass blocking ability

93. Troy Niklas TE Notre Dame - a bit surprised that Niklas last this long, He solves the blocking TE issue and has up side in catching ability too!

126. Aaron Murray QB Georgia - proven in the SEC. He is just the kind of player that will slip and be motivated to perform.

191e. Jay Bromley DT Syracuse - Chandler Jones buddy from the Cuse. Can't beleive there is so much talent that Bromley drops this far.

198e. Wesley Johnson OC Vanderbilt - Johnson is only 297 but he was all SEC 1st team as OT. He worked out at the Combine from the OC position.

208c Tyler Gaffney RB Stanford - He is one of a very few RB in this draft that can pass block. He is a great receiver out of the backfield. His speed is very deceiving as is his rushing ability. Fits the last RB position and will be a ST performer as well.

209c Kevin Pierre-Louis LB Boston College - his speed numbers at the combine were off the charts. He is not much of a LB, but would be an upgrade to what we have now on ST. We lost 15 tackles in Fletcher on ST.

238e Larry Webster DE/TE Blomsburg - former basketball player had 15 sacks this year. Raw, needs a red shirt year and gets stronger. NFL lineage - his father played 15 years. Caught two passes to TDs at 6'6" 252 running a 4.58 at combine. Compared to former Bengal Michael Johnson. I have seen tape and he needs a lot of work, but taking him here is perfect.

It would be pretty tough passing on Mosley but we would probably have to unless they were get some kind of extreme package for Hightower.

I wouldn't hesitate taking Mosley, even if we think we already have our starting LBers. While Collins really came on at the end of last season, I think he would be best utilized as a matchup weapon instead of a base LBer. Use his versatility, keep him fresh and play to his strengths and I think he can be a playmaker for us. I know some people like the idea of a coverage LBer like Shazier early in the draft, why not get a guy that is not only better in coverage but a much better overall player in Mosley. I've been sold on taking a DT in the 1st pretty much throughout the whole process, but Mosley is a top 10 talent that would make me change my mind.

That Dane Brugler mock would be almost ideal for me, especially if we could some how pull off the Mallett to Houston for #33 trade. Mosley at #29 and Hageman at #33 would be a huge upgrade for our front 7. With a lockdown secondary we could then be creative with blitzes, especially utilizing guys like Hightower and Collins to get after the QB. Instead of having one specific 'system' we would have the versatility to play any defense against any team to best suit the matchups.

Who could argue if this is where we go with this pick. Solid

62. Brandon Thomas OG Clemson - Another case of BB taking a OT and making him a OG. He has the quickness to be a pulling OG as well as the pass blocking ability

BB hasn't been the one teaching versatility so much as it was Scar. I'm leary on this one, both on the player and position.

93. Troy Niklas TE Notre Dame - a bit surprised that Niklas last this long, He solves the blocking TE issue and has up side in catching ability too!

If he and Fiedorowicz are still on the board at this point, you take Niklas. No question.

126. Aaron Murray QB Georgia - proven in the SEC. He is just the kind of player that will slip and be motivated to perform.

Like the player, just to many needs to go this high this soon. That and according to your mock, Mallet is still on the roster

191e. Jay Bromley DT Syracuse - Chandler Jones buddy from the Cuse. Can't beleive there is so much talent that Bromley drops this far.

A bit smallish, but definitely good value, and we need help in the trenches.

198e. Wesley Johnson OC Vanderbilt - Johnson is only 297 but he was all SEC 1st team as OT. He worked out at the Combine from the OC position.

Still not sure if transitioning OL's without Scar is a good idea quite yet. Brady got sacked 40 times last year. We need help up front but I don't think this may be the way to go.

208c Tyler Gaffney RB Stanford - He is one of a very few RB in this draft that can pass block. He is a great receiver out of the backfield. His speed is very deceiving as is his rushing ability. Fits the last RB position and will be a ST performer as well.

Ridley, Vereen and Bolden are all FA's next march and who knows about Blount. If this kid doesn't decide he'd rather play BB instead, it's a solid pick IMO

209c Kevin Pierre-Louis LB Boston College - his speed numbers at the combine were off the charts. He is not much of a LB, but would be an upgrade to what we have now on ST. We lost 15 tackles in Fletcher on ST.

Love the fact you brought up Fletchers ST tackles. I think BB puts a higher emphasis on that squad than most posters here realize.

Everybody has that flyer binkie, and your pick is as good as anyones. I like it.

e = estimate where Pats will pick after Compensatory picks are awarded
c = Compensatory pick quesstimate

I like the fact you used Fanspeak to guestimate the exact positions where we pick. I used Miguels colleague Craig Turner's to guess position. The only major difference was he only assigned us one comp pick (Patrick Chung). Hope he's wrong, but his research looks solid.

2014 NFL compensatory pick projections

This is what I came up with based on his calculations:

1-29
2-62
3-93
4-128
6-196 (PHI)
6-204
6-210(Comp)
7-242

Nice work.
