If this falls through I am seriously going to leave a flaming bag of poo on Browner's agent's doorstep.

Why are we so excited about this guy? Is there any reason to think he can be effective when off the juice?

Browner was taking roids? This is news to me.

He was suspended for taking pot. Speaking of pot, we now know why talib signed in denver...

Do we know for certain that he was on the juice?

So sounds like Browner wanted us, but his agent wanted to give Washington a chance to one-up our deal. Washington must be interested otherwise they would have blown off this supposed re-scheduled meeting.

I mean it explains when Sherman congratulated him right away if he was telling his friends

Well, to each his own, I suppose.

It certainly seems as though attitudes are a bit different this generation. I don't remember too many players being okay with the fact that they'd be docked 10 thousand dollars because they "felt like" wearing a certain color of shoe that make them look cooler with their uniforms. 10 thousand dollars could be a lot of things to a lot of people. The disrespect alone is a bit disgusting.

"Swag" was called being tough and playing good fundamental football.

While there were always a handful of players who gambled, drank too much, smoked, etc--I also don't remember "up to 50%" of the players doing drugs according to several different former players in the past few years. Hell, they basically announce that they'll be drug tests once in year in the middle of April, and you STILL see tons of people failing them and giving up their multi-million dollar careers. How the hell you do explain that on such a scale, as opposed to the one/two players on each team that would be the bad boys in former days?

Yes...I do believe they are a bit dumber in this generation. That's my opinion, and while you may not agree, I'm sticking to it.

Guys weren't getting fined for looking cooler because that didn't used to be a fine. Billy "White Shoes" Johnson, for instance. The 80s Miami Hurricanes rolling up their jerseys so as to expose their stomachs, literally putting themselves in harms way, all while doing extreme dances after every play that brought about excessive celebration changes. That was about 30 years ago.

North Dallas Forty was written forty years ago.

There were football players graduating from college in the 70s and 80s that were literally incapable of reading. Illiterate college graduates.

In every professional sport in the 80s, cocaine was an extreme problem, far far far worse than we see now. Guys smoke pot now, then they smoked pot and did blow. It's tested for now, that's why we see guys getting suspended. You can't get suspended if they aren't testing for it. You think Lawrence Taylor would have passed his tests? You're basing your assumptions on the things that a handful of guys have said and then saying that there were 1/2 bad boys on teams in the past when you cannot possibly know either of those to be fact. All we hear about those days are anecdotal stories that people laugh off now...you know, laughing about how Max McGee was wasted the night before and hung over during the first Super Bowl because he assumed he wasn't going to play. Hahahaha boys will be boys as long as they don't have earrings and tattoos and say words I don't understand.

Guys say swag now, and that word may be irritating. Not everybody tackles as well now. But I don't think for a minute these guys are dumber now. It's just that the time you're romanticizing was not a time of 24 hour news networks and the internet, all of which have made all of this information far more accessible. We know all about the bad boys now because people film them on their camera phones and write emails to Deadspin.

You can stick to your opinion all you want, I just don't think it's even remotely informed. You're a great poster Supa, I just couldn't disagree with you more on this particular topic. Now, I'll quickly get the hell off your lawn.

do you even know why he was suspended? It was for missing drug tests (weed, etc.) while he was playing for the CFL. Nothing about juicing, and he only failed one test which showed some weed in his system. The only reason he was on Stage 3, was because of a failure to comply from 2006-2007 (again, he wasn't even in the NFL at this time).

here's some info that is sorely needed.

Not weed!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh the humanity!!!!

Source? He was suspended because of marijuana.

We all excited about Browner because of his hard hitting, able to cover, able to wreck people. That's him playing CB, now imagine him as a SS patrolling around the box. Could work, couldn't work. Doesn't matter, I'm just thrill of seeing him lighting people up in the middle of the field.

Young millionaires smokin weed, who would have thought!! Oh the horrors...

Are you saying we signed him?

obviously he jumped the gun on the "deal in place/agreed in principle" vs. "signed" part, but i think he's pretty spot on with the rest, based on all i have read and pieced together

there's an obvious undercurrent between schefter, rap, breer, PFT, et al......and some are throwing him under the bus a little.....partly because they are in bed with the agents, partly because they are competitive to be first/right

Thanks for that link. A must-read for everyone commenting on Browner and his suspension.

Completely missed it earlier, really interesting read, especially for those calling Browner a problem child.

Doesn't seem like the deal was in place then.

I'm not singling him out, by the way. If it's a coin flip and you guess right so you can be first, you're still a hack.

Ridiculous to think you'd have to take an NFL drug test while playing in another country, unless the NFL owns the CFL.

hell, "hack" applies to 90% of sportswriters and 98.5% of sports radio personalities today

he may end up signing elsewhere.....rap jumped the gun a little....but i think his info was sound; Browner had a deal, he agreed to it, and then burned his agent a little....who freaked out

what saddens me more than the tweet fiasco is that the game is so controlled by agents......if you want to play in NE, than play there.....tell your agent to get you the best deal he can......but he works for you, not vice versa

Yes, I was wondering about this. Who works for who here? If Browner wants to be here then he should be here. What a load of crap.
