Darrelle Revis Rumors and Speculation

6/60m with 30m guaranteed then? He gets the most guaranteed $$$ for a CB then.

The only downside to that is it would take him to the age of 34 in the final year of the contract.

Clearly the Pats Plan A was to resign Talib. It was reported that BB offered Talib $40/4. As with Welker, I am guessing the Pats were fairly confident in their market assessment, and gave themselves another option to increase the offer modestly should some team offer more. I think they did not expect a contract of the magnitude Denver offered (who did?). The problem is that
I think Revis will reasonably want to be the highest paid CB, so he will now want more than Talib (per annum and total), and will not atke a cut from his $16. While BB would agree that Revis is worth more than Talib, and he could afford it, I don't think he will agree that Revis is worth what he will demand. There is a slight chance nobody else will either (every once in a blue moon a gem lands in the bargain bin), in which case maybe we get him for $12, but I doubt it. Too bad he didn't sign Verner when he had the chance. I think BB gambled on the market and lost.

Re: Darrelle Revis Available

The team has backed itself into a corner (no pun intended.) Not only did they lose their top CB, they lost him to their biggest threat in the AFC. Surely the Revis camp knows the Pats will be desperate for a top notch CB and right now Revis is the only one available. Which means he may not come down much (if at all) from $16 million. But if the Pats do not pay him, what are the alternatives?

How did they back themselves into a corner? Talib is a huge health risk and is only worth that money if he plays in 15 games and finishes the playoffs. He has not been able to do that the past two seasons and the hip seems to get worse and worse by the week. Revis may get 16 mil but it will not be from a contender. I'd like him at 10-12 million, he's worth it but 16 million hell no. I also understand the Cap landscape has changed recently with the TV contract revenue being higher than anticipated during the CBA and thus has sort of dirtied the water a bit on the pricing scale. Especially if it is $150 mil next season like some in the media have thrown out.

I don't think Belichick wanted Verner. Verner is a Tampa 2 zone cover guy. He is known to be a big liability in man coverage.

That's what makes this so different from fantasty football. All we know is the names, maybe a few highlights. Belichick has a scouting staff that does extensive film breakdown on all these guys.

Even if Belichick is too cheap to pay for Revis as some assert, he would jump at Revis at Talib money.

If you can get the best corner in the game for $9.5 per year with $26M guaranteed, you absolutely do that. Thing is, how much more over $10M does Revis feel he's worth and who is willing to pay him that? Because he's by far superior to Talib.

Compared to talib 9.5. He is still worth 12 mill a year compared to what other CBs got this FA.

Cap could very well be $145m in 2015 and $160m in 2016. Make the move.

Of course you take Revis at $9.5M. But Revis he says he will not take a pay cut from $16, and I take him at his word. That is a pretty big gap there, and everyone agrees there is also a gap in talent. I think BB doesn't go $16. I could see the market depressing value, at which point I think he goes elsewhere at $14. I think he is sold before it gets to 10. Or 12.

I would pay 14million for Revis....heck we are paying 12million$ to vince wilfork..who do you think would have a bigger impact on the defense? revis clearly

Well, to be fair, of course he said that in the situation. He's not going to make it easy for Tampa to dump him to Oakland, get compensation, then gain a 3rd for a 4th, all the while it's Revis who takes the hit.

His agent would have been nuts to say he's open for a salary reduction while the team's shopping him.

A guy that effectively shuts down half the field on his own and makes it so that you can bring a safety into the box routinely and/or call exotic blitz packages that you otherwise would never be able to do is worth more than $12M. The only question is what Belichick has pegged as his market value.

revis shuts down his side of the field........talib does not

I would hunt down steve smith.......just for fun

If this is going to happen, you need to focus on signing elite young players to heavily backloaded contracts.
Revis at 16 mill a year would be a bargain by 2016 if the cap is 160mill.

A Revis signing would be more exciting than anything we've done since signing Moss. We need to make this happen

I wish Revis would accept 12 a year with each year having a bonus if he makes the probowl.

How true. Some guys are just worth the money and Revis is one of them.

I think there's a 40 percent chance we sign him and I'm being optimistic just hard to believe when past two free agencies have been bad for us.....so far that is this one is not over yet

I would cut Wilfork to do it if necessary.
