Darrelle Revis Rumors and Speculation

As I said before, this is uncharted territory because elite, once in a generation players rarely if ever hit free agency. I think Peppers is the only other free agent that we can compare to Revis in this category and I don't know if Belichick liked Peppers as much as he likes Revis.

Typically, free agents who get top dollar at their position aren't among the top players at their position. For example, Talib is the highest paid CB other than Revis now and he clearly isn't the second best CB in the NFL.

You're making me still hold out some shred of hope in my heart that he's going to sign here even though everything upstairs is telling me that he's not. Can I send a mail order midgit to punch you in the face if he doesn't?

1) Reports are that Revis won't take a pay cut,
2) Reports are that Revis won't play for a non-contender, such as Oakland

Factor #2 may mean we are only competing with perennial playoff-contending teams, rather than everyone, for his services

What contending teams who are weak at DB have the most cap space?

If we are bidding against 4-5 teams at most, then maybe he caves a little on demand #1, if demand #2 is really important to him.

Yes, good point. He said he won't take a pay cut but suppose there are no takers at 16M per annum? THEN WHAT MR. REVIS? Then perhaps the Pats could hire him at 12M per annum? It would be funny if the Broncos somehow hired him. What do they care if the whole thing blows up in 3 years.

Sorry about that. I am working hard to make sure I jump ahead PatsWickedPissah in the Board Homer rankings. He was as high as #3 last year, I am not sure where he is this year.

As longs you don't send the midget COD, go for it.

He said he wouldn't take a pay cut in regards to facilitating a trade. If he is cut that is out the window.

The Broncos are in no position to take on his contract, even if he lowers his demands.

The Pats are in a quandary here.

If they don't get Revis then what? Ride Dennard, Ryan and Arrington for the season ........

That's the hope here.. however slight it is.

Probably one of the Cromarties...

I wonder if Revis' reluctance to lower his pay for a "trade" has to do with the calibar of teams looking to trade for him. most of them like Cleveland is a bottom-feeder type team not really competing for a championship.

if he goes to FA he can choose though and get more guaranteed money. maybe sign with pats for 13million$

That and they will have some rookies which always makes for a good time.

It was mentioned by Rob earlier, I think. He currently has a one year deal, for all intents and purposes. I am sure he would much rather have a 4 year deal and lets say 13 million a year with $30 million gtd, then that.

THere are a lot of good CBs in the draft. I have them taking Kyle Fuller in the draft in the 1st round. He could be REvis-esque. Maybe.

You aren't getting a revis type player in the late first or second round

Roy Cummings ?@RCummingsTBO 7m

Bucs have moved press conference for free agents from 3 p.m. to 4:30. One reason why: chances of actually trading Revis are increasing
maybe trade now

If revis's concern was about being on a winner he wouldn't have kept reupping with the jets.

Though I appreciate the humor, I think we need to broaden our concept of "winners" when it comes to free agent preferences. I think most players would consider the Jets a "winning" team, and probably assume their presence will help make them even more so. What they want to avoid is getting top dollar from a perennial bottom feeder like Jacksonville or Cleveland.

even though it makes me want to puke mentioning it...but the Jets did go to the afc-championship in 2009, 2010. so at THAT time..they weren't a bottom feeder like cleveland

Perhaps true but he did go to back-to-back AFCCG with them in his 3rd and 4th year in the NFL. Since they've been mediocre or worse. So he's had a taste of success.

Up until now, Revis' MO has been to be paid as the #1 CB in the league. Has that stance changed? Time will tell but, if not, it's going to take a huge $ contract to sign him. Maybe even more than #12.

Exactly my point. Where many fans look at it and say "Winners are the consistent/current Super Bowl favorites (New England, Denver, Seattle, San Fran), where to a free agent, a winner is any team in the running for playoff spots, which would include the Jets.

Nice little assessment below.

Revis has always been about the money, and it would be a shocker if he accepted anything less than Talib's deal (six years, reportedly worth $57 million, including $26 million guaranteed).
