If Mike Tanier were the Pats GM

Like the idea of putting all the chips in the middle of the table, but I'd much prefer to see BB's plan as opposed to this guy.

He says Brady needs more weapons then then starts off talking about Devin Hester? Not only is Hester not a legit WR, but his best returning days are behind him. Then he suggest that Hester could free up Edelman? I'd rather have Edelman over Hester right now anyways. If the Pats pay up for Edelman, a good chunk of his value is in the return game. Doesn't make any sense to then go out and pay Hester?

who the heck is mike tanier

The punch line never came. He flirted with the idea of "putting chips in the middle of the table," but the best he could come up with was re-signing Talib, Edelman, keeping Wilfork, Scott Chandler, Devin Hester and drafting the kid out of BC?

Going all in means 1) get a WR like Golden Tate from Seattle or James Jones from Green Bay, 1a) sign Talib, 2) sign DE Arthur Jones from the Ravens as a bookend with his little brother Chandler, and 3) sign TE Dustin Keller from Miami (if he's recovered from his ACL/MCL injury) to jack up the receiving alongside Gronk and Hooman.

I'd let Edelman walk if the money and years don't work in the team's interests.

Sign Talib to a competitive deal, add juice to the DL with Arthur Jones, move Ninkovich to LB, and give Brady two more big name playmakers like Tate and Keller, and weaken the bottom of the roster a la NYJ and pray for no injuries is going all in, not what Tanier wrote.

If the Patriots re-install Kelly and Wilfork in between Jones and Jones, go with Ninkovich, Mayo and Hightower at LB, Arrington, Talib and Dennard at CB and McCourty and Wilson at safety, you have no rookies lots of savvy on defense.

Offense is Brady at QB, Gronk and Keller at TE, Golden Tate and Aaron Dobson at split ends, Amendola and TJ Moe in the slot, and the Vereen, Ridley and "big back" in the backfield.

Someone didn't get the memo

The "now is the time to mortgage the future" stuff assumes Belichick is leaving.

I don't think he leaves when Brady leaves, I don't even think it will be close. He is a guy who cares a lot about league legacies and I think he'll want to prove it wasn't just the QB as well as put some more years on his time post-spygate which will haunt him until he puts at least one more ring on his finger.

When this team starts killing the future cap instead of trying to manage it prudently that's when the end of Belichick's tenure here and possibly coaching in general will be drawing to a close.

IDK. I think it's more like... Edelman and Tate/Jones, Talib or Verner and maybe Arthur Jones.

There's a middle ground between buying a brand new Lambourghini and buying a used Yugo, though. This team can afford to spring for a couple of Mercedes or Porshes now and again. It just chooses not to.
